If you don’t keep your mind active, studies show that your brain loses some of its functionality as you age, which causes memory loss, brain fog, and even Alzheimer’s.

A well-stimulated brain also elevates your mood, which helps you feel better on the inside.

Here are 15 brain boosting activities:

1. Play games that challenge and stimulate your mind. These include:

* Picture Puzzles
* Strategy Games
* Crossword Puzzles
* Card Games
* Deduction Games (such as Clue)
* Visualization Puzzles
* Optical Illusions

2. Reading stimulates the brain as it activates your imagination. Reading also helps with memory retention and problem solving, especially if you’re reading a mystery. Also, self-help books stimulate your brain by helping you to think for yourself, as well as find solutions in your mind.

3. Exercising helps circulate blood that carries oxygen to your brain. Over the long-term, exercise is proven to increase brainpower and even create new neurons.

4. Stimulate your brain with meditation. Meditation has been shown to increase your IQ, relieve stress, and promote a higher level of brain functioning. Meditation also stimulates the prefrontal cortex of the brain, the area of the brain responsible for advanced thinking, ability and performance.

5. Deep breathing helps deliver oxygen to your brain. Oxygen helps you be more alert and awake. As little as 10 to 15 minutes of deep breathing daily can increase brain functionality.

6. Taking fish oil supplements is literally like membrane material for the brain. The two primary components in fish oil, DHA and EPA, strengthen the emotional center of the brain and boost focus.

7. Studies have proven that listening to music strengthens the right hemisphere of the brain and actually changes the structure of it. Also, people who listen to music are shown to be more emotionally intelligent than those who don’t.

8. Writing improves memory and thought expression. Writing articles, blogs, or journal entries stimulates thought processes, which also enhances brain function.

9. Sleep clears out brain clutter and reduces brain fog. When you don’t get enough sleep at night, your memory and normal brain function suffers.

10. Painting is shown to be an effective brain booster in that it sparks the creativity within you. Even if you’ve never tried painting before, give it a shot. You’ll find that you feel more creative and may actually enjoy it.

11. Starting the day out with a good breakfast has been proven to supply energy to the brain and body for the whole day. When you skip breakfast, you’re missing out on a powerful edge, both physically and mentally.

12. Walking allows you to clear your mind and thoughts. Not only is it good exercise for your body, walking gives your brain a chance to wander freely, clearing it of any troublesome thoughts.

13. Drink a serving of pure fruit juice. Fruit juice contains nutrients that revitalize and refresh the brain. Juices to drink are pomegranate, blueberry, and cranberry as they deliver more focus and energy.

14. Students who drink some caffeine before an exam typically have higher scores than those who don’t. This is because caffeine stimulates activity in the brain, which produces better focus and thinking ability. Don’t overdo it though!

15. Draw a picture. Like painting, drawing stimulates the creative side of your brain. So get out some colored pencils and start boosting your brainpower.

To get the most out of these brain boosting activities, mix them up and do a variety of them at different times. Just choosing one won’t boost your brainpower, however, combining and alternating them will give your brain the added boost you need now and in the long run

Hope this help get your juices flowing in the brain realm. ALso write down your feelings or dreams. Gratitude journals help too. For more related ideas, please visit my 3 previous blogs here. Mary Comments are always welcomed.

The kid got my swing!

The kid got my swing!

Let’s go back to a few basics that keep you energized, thinkly clearly, and feeling good. Can these exercises also increase brain function and hlp you reach your goals? Yes. Read on to see how…

‘Brisk Walking’ which really translates to any walking. If you are a couch potato and just don’t seem to move much, especially not to the door outside. Just stand up and walk in place for one commercial three to 23 times a day.

Slow walking may not give to that vigorous sensation from much faster oxygen input, however the body IS MOVING, and the blood circulating. Also a slower walk can help with relaxation and provide a natural environment to think and solve problems.

‘Positive Attitude Phrases’ Somday I’ll do an article on NPT and way to program your mind. Today the shortcut: create a few positive statements and either repeat them every so often during the walk or have a code phrase that triggers the larger thought form for you.

Play tapes or music as you walk, or work, or drive.

All of these can assist you toward moving toward your goals. ALso read the previous blog for more connections and suggestions.

Think and Grow Rich is a motivational personal development and self-help book written by Napoleon Hill and inspired by a suggestion by Scottish-American billionaire Andrew Carnegie. It was published in 1937 during the Great Depression.[1] It remains the biggest seller of Napoleon Hill’s books, selling a claimed 30 million copies over the next 70 years (although Alice Payne Hackett’s 70 Years of Best Sellers suggests the figure was lower).[2]

The text of Think and Grow Rich is founded on Hill’s earlier work The Law of Success, the result of more than twenty years of research based on Hill’s close association with a large number of individuals who achieved great wealth during their lifetimes.[1]

At Andrew Carnegie’s bidding, Hill studied the characteristics of these achievers and developed 15 “laws” of success intended to be applied by anybody to achieve success. Think and Grow Rich condenses these laws further and provides the reader with 13 principles in the form of a philosophy of personal achievement.[1]

[edit] Variant editions

Napoleon Hill holding his book Think and Grow RichThe first edition of Think and Grow Rich was released in March 1937. Only 5,000 copies were printed. Despite advertising for the book being mostly word of mouth, the original prints were sold out in six weeks at a price of $2.50 each. Another 10,000 copies were printed to meet demand, all of which also sold out in six weeks. The third print totaled 20,000.[3]

Since its publication in 1937, Think and Grow Rich has been reprinted, revised, edited, abridged, updated and even rewritten multiple times in many different languages and incarnations by many different publishers.[original research?] WorldCat alone lists over 120 editions.[4][unreliable source?]

In 2004, Ross Cornwell published Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised (ISBN 1-59330-200-2), which restored the book to its original content, with slight revisions, and added the first comprehensive endnotes, index, and appendix the book has ever contained. This version went into a third printing in 2008.[5]

In 2004 an abridged text was published in a version titled Think and Grow Rich: The 21st-Century Edition: Revised and Updated (ISBN 1-932429-23-9). It was published by High Roads Media. In this version, author/editor Bill Hartley introduces modern examples of Hill’s principles combined with editorial commentary throughout the book. Some readers have expressed negative opinions of this presentation, saying the modern examples are unnecessary, and the injection of outside commentary disrupts the flow of Napoleon Hill’s original text.[6][unreliable source?]

Most of us suffer with anxiety and have moments when we lose our stability and lack certainty in our souls. This is often due to challenges to our perception of ourselves, our relationship to the world and our relationship to others.

Beginning on Sunday, July 12, I will be giving a four session teleseminar on the Twelve Senses. If our twelve senses are vibrant, healthy and nourished, our perceptions are stable and harmonious, life is safe and sound.

To read my thoughts on Anxiety and the Twelve Senses and to learn more about the Twelve Senses please go to
The Inner Year Blog at www.theinneryear.blogspot.com.

I hope you are having a rich summer full of glorious sense perceptions.

With delight,
Lynn

Anxiety and the Twelve Senses

We live in the age of anxiety and our challenge is the transformation of personal anxiety into personal confidence.

Anxiety arises out of a feeling of a gap. A gap is a break in continuity that asks for restoration. It is a hole or interval between you and what you desire that must be bridged. It is a lack of harmony or fit that requires alteration and adjustment.

Gaps occur in our relationship to our bodies, in our relationship to the world, and in our relationship to others. All these relationships are known through our perceptions. If our perceptions are distorted or our organs of perceptions are damaged restoration, bridging, alteration and adjustment appear difficult or impossible. Life becomes threatening. Anxiety increases.

Even confidence in our relationship to God or Spirit asks us to be “grounded” in our earthly perceptions first. Without this healthy and essential earthly life, our spiritual lives live over a gap in human experience.

Consequenttly, a very important way of managing, resolving or eliminating all forms of anxiety is to attend to our perceptions and our organs of perception.

From the perspective of inner development, we can look at twelve senses, twelve organs of perception:

4 senses give us our perception of our embodied self, the world within our skin:
the sense of touch or boundary,
the sense of well-being including our sense of hunger, thirst, exhaustion and pain,
the sense of self-movement and contraction and expansion, and
the sense of balance and uprightness.

4 senses give us our perception of the world beyond our skin:
smell,
taste,
vision and
warmth

and
4 senses give us our perception of what lives within the souls of others:
hearing,
the sense of word and gesture,
the sense of thought, idea and ideal, and
the sense of divine individuality in the other.

All twelve senses weave together to shape our soul and the sense of “I am.” Each one is a treasure of experience and information. But each sense is also fragile.

One never knows what part of the boat you are looking out of. If you are at the tail end you may see a polluted city fading away, or a whale surfacing. Today’s positive habit: ‘Long lasting energy all
day long!’

How to have incredible energy all day long!

I am going to share with you 2 habits out
of the book that will give you energy all day long.

Habit #26 from the book

Do you want to have sustained energy all day?

Who doesn’t? New research published in the Journal
of Applied Physiology shows that oatmeal provides
a slow-burning, sustained energy that lasts into the day.
‘Because oatmeal is rich in soluble fiber, its energy is
released into the body slowly,’ said John Kirwan of the
Noll Physiological Research Center at Pennsylvania State
University, the study’s author. ‘This gradual release helps
conserve the body’s energy stores during an active day,
unlike a more rapidly-absorbed carbohydrate meal, which may
leave you feeling tired soon after eating.’

Another benefit that oatmeal provides in your quest for a
trim and fit body and a healthy heart is that it is extremely
filling. Start off your day with a bowl of oatmeal, and you
will be less likely to snack before lunchtime.

Healthy Heart

A study published by the Journal of the
American Medical Association (JAMA), reinforced the
fact that women can reduce their risk of heart disease
by eating soluble fiber from cereals such as oatmeal.
‘The Nurses Health Study reported in JAMA is very
important because it provides women with effective and
practical information on how to reduce the risk for heart
disease, which is the leading cause of death for women
in this country,’ said Dr. Steve Ink, director of
Nutrition Services, The Quaker Oats Company.

The early results from these ongoing studies indicate
that certain soluble fiber-containing grains - like oats
= may work to lower risk for heart disease in several
important ways. Daily consumption (five or more servings
per week) of cold breakfast cereals reduced the risk for
heart disease in women by 19 %, while oatmeal consumption
reduced the risk for heart disease by 29 %,’ investigators
at Pennsylvania State University, reported.

Here are some tips for making oatmeal even more nutritious
and healthy for you:

Stir in a small amount of good fats - almond or cashew butter.

Try adding all-natural apple sauce for a sweeter flavor or
add 100% fruit spread. (Berries have many health benefits.)

Add a tablespoon of soy protein after cooking and get
the combined benefits of soy and oats.

To further increase your energy try combining Habit #26
with Habit #40

Habit #40
Take CoQ10 for a Healthy Heart and Increased Energy

CoQ10 is found in every cell of the body; it is a naturally
occurring nutrient. CoQ10 is most commonly found in fish and
meats. It is a powerful antioxidant, and plays a major role
in the energy system of our cells; it helps cells produce
more energy. For many years, medical researchers have noticed
that patients with heart failure had lower levels of CoQ10.
Supplementing with CoQ10 restored their levels and also
resulted in clinical improvements.

If you want to have a healthy heart and improved energy levels,
consider CoQ10. Most experts recommend taking no more then
60 mg. daily. Check with your physician or nutritionist.

Here is a powerful tool that will help you have a healthy heart.
Imagine being able to lower high blood pressure
without costly drug prescriptions or harmful drug side effects.

Some people are literally ticking time bombs in the sense that if
they don’t treat their high blood pressure, they face serious
negative health consequences in the future. Unfortunately, high
blood pressure sneaks up on many people without them
knowing…which is why it’s often called “The Silent Killer”.

According to the statistics, 1 out of every 4 US adults has high
blood pressure. Having high blood pressure leads to an increased
risk of stroke, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney failure.
What this means is that, according to the statistics, some of
you…reading this right now…face serious health risks as a direct
result of having high blood pressure.

The tool I am referring to is an amazing e-book called
“The Silent Killer Exposed” is by Frank Mangano, the developer of
a unique, all-natural method for dropping your blood pressure.

In my opinion, Frank has a knack for simplifying complex medical
concepts and delivering a total, no-nonsense solution that will
greatly benefit you. Frank offers an unconditional, risk-free
60-day guarantee.

If it were earlier I make quite a few comments to this article. Living in your skin can be fine whatever size you are, if you are happy that way. His overall point is directed to complainers. Most of us occassionally fall into that category.

What becomes exciting is when we pursue and take actions on issues/projects that we wish to accomplish or change. DO it!
The article also proves interesting because of links. If you have gained interest in this series (review previous blogs ) then sign up for Dan RObey’s newletter or course. Mary

Dear Mary,

Welcome to the fourth in a series of
Positive Habits lessons.

Put your friends on ‘autopilot’…forward this email
to everyone on your list.

************************************************************

Today’s quote:

‘Words are clothes that thoughts wear’ - Samuel Butler

************************************************************

Today’s positive habit:

Take Responsibility for Your Life…..

Perhaps the most important decision
any person can make is the decision to take personal
responsibility for their life.

Make it a habit to TAKE personal responsibility for your
actions and their results.

What does that mean?

Let me give you some examples:

I cannot tell you how many times I have listened
to people complain about how they are always getting sick.

As they are explaining their various health problems to me
they pause to lift a cigarette to their mouth. I tell them that
they are only making their situation worse by smoking cigarettes,
they shrug their shoulders and say “you gotta die from something.”

I always ask the non-smokers with health issues this question:

“How many times a week do you elevate your heart rate to 70%
of it’s maximum for 10 minutes or more?”

The answer I get 90% of the time is “never.”

No wonder that have health issues, they live a sedentary lifestyle.
If you want to be healthy you have to move, and move often….stay
still and you will be doomed to live a life filled with
health problems.

The most important decision you can make in your life is
to take personal responsibility for it.

If you have an addiction kick it. There are numerous support
groups to help you….no excuses.

If you are overweight and unhealthy get fit and in shape.
Read books about healthy diets, healthy lifestyles, don’t
accept anything but the best for yourself.

Be proactive!

Who has to live in your skin?

That’s right, it is you!

Not your doctor!

Not your husband or wife or your children!

It is you who has to live in “YOUR” skin!

You have to live with the consequences of
not taking positive steps to prevent sickness
and disease in your life, and it is you
that can take the steps to bring wellness
back to your life.

It is “YOU” who has to live with “YOUR” health problems.

It is “YOU” that can take charge and learn how others conquered
their health problems….let them show you the way.

Soon you will know more about your personal health challenges
than any doctor knows about them.

It is “YOU” who may have chosen to live a life of mediocrity.

“YOU” have the power to change every aspect of your life.

“YOU” can choose to study the laws of success and
change your life to one of amazing success.

The tools are all yours for the taking.

Read the Bible of Success, “Think and Grow Rich” by
Napolean Hill. Read it over and over again
until it is a part of who you are, a person who will
succeed no matter what obstacles may appear.
Don’t let the title fool you, money is a very small
part of the story.

Take responsibility for your life today!

You can change it all if you want!

You can be a winner if you want!

You can be the person you want to be if you
only WANT it enough!

Decide today to take responsibly!

Read the books, do the research, ride the bike,
take the long walk, join the gym!

Go for it and don’t stop until you reach your goals!

Here are some tools to help you get started.

#1

Here is the best advice I can give you moving forward with
your new life.

“Don’t re-invent the wheel!”

Decide what it is you need to accomplish and find someone who has
already reached your goal. Find out how they did it and
copy their model.

Some examples:

*** You have health issues: ***

Read books written by people who “HAD” the same problem you
have and conquered it. The books are out there…..find them!

Don’t stop until you have found all the books that are specific
to your health problem.

Don’t stop until you have taken the actions recommended
in the books written by people who have overcome your
health problem.

Don’t stop until you can walk into your doctors office
and see his/her eyes light up in amazement at the knowledge
you have about your condition! Become the expert on your condition!

*** You want to start a new business: ***

Read business and success books related to the business venture
you want to start.

Find someone who is ultra successful and copy their model.

Remember, they have already been through the ups
and downs…they can teach you how to get where you want to go
quickly.

The same applies to career advancement, child rearing, relationship
advice, etc. Find the experts and let them teach you.

Here are some great tools to get you going FAST!

“Imagine, YOU-The Happiest Person For A Hundred

Take your challenges in hand

Take your challenges in hand

I enjoyed this email and so I am sending it forward. I immediately think about my friend Karen, who while talking with me last November, suggested I go see her husband, Dr Dan DOM. Although I knew him well, I had been reluctant to ask for his help. On my budget I could not “afford” a doctor. I went and we worked out a plan. Her suggestion has dramatically changed my life.

I know at times, some small thing I did for someone else has similiar effects. Perhaps you have similar stories. Read on.

Wishing You Continued Success!

Dan Robey

http://www.thepowerofpositivehabits.com

Dear Mary,

You have something in common with every single
person on this planet and it only takes one person
to forever change your life.

You might be saying “Dan, have you gone
crazy, you just sent me a very motivational
article telling me that I am unique,
that there is no on else like me in the universe!”

“Now you are telling me I am just like over 6 billion
people on this planet!”

Don’t worry.

I have not gone crazy…. well maybe just a little.

Yes, you are unique.

Yes, there is no other human being
on this planet with your exact DNA, and life experiences.

Yes, the thoughts in your mind are unlike any other
persons thoughts.

While this is all true, I want you to think about
an amazing fact.

You have something in common with every person
that is living and breathing right now on this big spinning
ball we call “Earth.”

It is your understanding of this commonality that
all humans have that will forever change the way
you think about people.

It is your understanding of this commonality
in the human race that will forever change the way you
talk to, interact with, and respect people.

The way you love people.

The way you develop friendships that will change
your life forever.

What is this commonality, this sharing of common attributes that
all human beings possess?

It is very simple.

Every person that is alive and breathing on this
planet at this exact moment has “this” in common with you.

They are all living and breathing and
going through the experience we call “LIFE.”

We are all sharing this “LIFE” experience together because
we are all “ALIVE RIGHT NOW!”

When someone treats you badly, remember that they
are only human, they have faults just like you.

Remember that anyone can have a bad day.

Always remember that it is impossible for you to know
exactly what is going on in a persons mind at the exact moment
you are interacting with them.

Maybe they lost a loved one recently.

Maybe they just lost their job.

Maybe they on the verge of a divorce.

Always remember that they are struggling to make
it through the up and down days of life… JUST LIKE YOU.

If you make it a habit to remember that they are just
trying to be happy and prosperous in life, just trying to
make it through another day, you will look at them in a different
way.

There will be a huge paradigm shift in your thought patterns.

You will have compassion where none existed before.

You will forgive those you thought you could never forgive.

You will create friendships where a friendship was
never possible before.

You will love where you have never loved before.

I want you to look back on your life right now.

Can you identify one person who forever changed your life?

Maybe it was a friend who introduced you to your spouse.

Maybe it was a person who gave you advice and encouragement
when you needed it most.

Maybe is was a stranger who told you about a company
that was hiring, you applied with that company, and got a job
that changed your life.

Here is an amazing true story.

When I was about 15 years old, my cousin David moved down to Miami
from Ohio in search of a job and a new life.

David stayed at my parents home while searching for a job.

One Sunday morning I noticed that David was reading through the
Miami Herald newspaper classified ads for a job.

Out of curiosity I picked up the paper, and began looking as well.

I saw that David had circled companies that he thought held promise.

I also noticed that he had not circled any potential jobs in the
category of “Mechanical Engineering”. This was probably not a
category that David felt matched his qualifications.

I was young and naive, and had no regard for the job
classifications….I just looked in all classifications and read
all the job descriptions.

I found a job description that to a 15 year old boy sounded “pretty
cool,” It was technical position for a company named
“Bell and Howell” in Orlando, Florida.

I circled the job listing and handed it to David.

He called the company, went in for 2 interviews, and got the job!

David has worked for Bell and Howell for more then 20 years.

He relocated to Orlando and met his wife.

My circling of the job listing started a chain of events that
forever changed David’s life.

Let me ask you another question.

What if that “ONE” person that was about to provide you with life
changing information, was having a terrible day on that one
fateful day that you met him or her?

Would you have detected the stress in their voice as they talked?

Would you have had empathy for their struggle?

Would you have given them a chance to get beyond their frustration?

OR

Would their attitude on that one day have caused you to distance
yourself from them?

Would you have pushed away from a person who may have
been the “life changing” domino in your life?

Make it a habit to recognize that EVERYONE is going through
this adventure called “LIFE.”

Make it a habit to look into the eyes of complete strangers
and “SEE” their struggles.

“SEE” their passion.

“SEE” their sorrow.

“SEE” that they, like you, are imperfect, and judge them not.

Take the extra step to help them in their life struggles,
someday they will do the same for you.
The One Person That “Forever” Changed Your Life

Someday, the person you least expect to change your life
will become the one person who starts
a change reaction of events that will “FOREVER” change your life.

That person could be waiting around the next corner.

That person might be someone you meet “TODAY.”

If the message you are about to read changes your life in a
positive way, share it.

Send this email to everyone you love and care about.

Be the “ONE” to push the first domino in a line of 1000’s
of dominos!

Become the catalyst for change in another persons life!

Become the person that someone will identify years into the
future as the person that started a series of events that made
their life infinitely better.

Become a life changer!

Make it a habit.

It is a habit that will serve you well.

I pray that my words will always leave you in a better place then
where you were before they entered your mind.

As always, I wish you, my extended family on planet Earth
continued Success!!

SAve the Last dance for me…to your health

See into the open skies, have visions grounded on earth

See into the open skies, have visions grounded on earth

OK, you will never catch me on one of those TV dance contest shows, unless it;s a comedy faux pax routine. Though there was a time when I’d be on the floor in a flash, usually dragging someone behind me. Hmmm… you could give those cane crutches, and I could dance that way. My point is dnacing is still in vogue and wonderful no matter how you do it! Just get up and dance.

Dance to Your Health

We as a world are more aware than ever of the importance of physical fitness to our overall health. While we remain aware of the need for physical activity far too many of us find far too few reasons to incorporate physical activity into our daily lives and routines. There are many reasons that we procrastinate in this particular effort. For some time is the defining factor while others will readily admit that they have no appreciation whatsoever for those activities that come to mind when exercise is considered.

Whatever your reason for not incorporating exercise and physical activity into your daily routine, have you considered dancing for your health? There are all kinds of wonderful reasons to dance though I can think of very few that would be better than dancing for the sake of your health and physical well being. The good news when it comes to dancing is that in most instances it doesn’t feel as though you are getting exercise and the burning of calories doesn’t sting nearly as much when you’re having fun burning them.

Dancing has evolved a great deal and while the history of dance is a long and noble history. Even, one might add, a quite manly history for those men who haven’t considered dancing in the past.

Benefits of Dancing

In addition to burning calories, a good thing for dieters everywhere, dancing also helps strengthen your muscles and bones. It can provide either a low impact or high impact workout according to your wishes and the music you select, it can be entertaining and feel like fun rather than a chore—this means you are more likely to actually do it than many other exercise programs, and it can help tone all areas of your body rather than focusing on one particular area as many exercises do.

Dancing also provides an excellent opportunity to socialize and meet others if you take classes while in the process helping you gain a better sense of balance and grace (those like me who have absolutely no sense of grace could greatly benefit from this alone). Dancing, and the physical activity alone can help you ward off potential illnesses that are often associated with excess weight and too little physical activity. Even as little as thirty minutes of dance 4 days a week can bring about profound results when it comes to your overall health and well being.

More importantly however than any of these benefits of dancing mentioned above dancing is fun. This means that you will enjoy life a little, laugh a little, and accidentally work a little physical fitness into your life without feeling as though you are suffering for the sake of doing so. So many people get very little physical activity because they do not see physical activity as fun.

If you are wondering what sort of dance is right for you, there are many from which to choose. Square dancing is great fun for couples as are ballroom and swing dancing. Line dancing, contra square dancing, clogging, and tap dancing can be great fun in larger groups or as a participant in a class. If you want something a little sexier for your dance efforts you can always try Salsa dancing, Flamenco dancing, or belly dancing.

If you live in or around a relatively large community it is quite likely that you can find classes or teachers for private lessons for each of these forms of dance quite easily. You do want to make sure that anyone you take lessons from knows what they are doing. You can also look in your local paper for square dancing groups or bars or clubs that offer line dancing classes on designated nights during the week.

Whether you have been dancing all your life or are a rank novice when it comes to dancing, this is a great way to bring physical fitness into your life and improving your health without feeling as though you are really working for it or experiencing a sense of dread at the very thought.

On July 4th many people will be dancing in the streets

See into the open skies, have visions grounded on earth

See into the open skies, have visions grounded on earth

So what kind of dancing will you choose? Most popular dancing for younger folks aren’t even listed here. Today’s population may well have 2 separate MP3’s playing, and they will be texting or talking on their cell phones at the same time. How many people still have radios to turn on?

On the fourth there will be concerts nation wide. Maybe some will even give a tribute for the soldiers coming home from IRaQ. YEah, a double Independence Day. People will be dancing. May you celebrate freedom. Happy 4th.
Dance for Fun

We all have things in life we love to do. Some of these things we love more than others. Dancing is something that many of us, as we age, forget to make the time to enjoy. However, dancing is one of those simple pleasures in life that can also remind us to smile, to play, to spin around until we get dizzy, and most importantly to enjoy the simplicity of having fun without the worry of work, family, or finances getting in the way.
Line Dancing

Line dancing is a style of dancing in which dancers line up and dance together by making the same dance steps at the same time. It has swept not only the nation but is quickly making its way around the world as an excellent source of dancing fun. It’s also a great way to socialize and meet new people. While line dancing was primarily limited to country music in the beginning it has quickly made its way into other styles of music as well. Many bars, dance halls, and clubs will offer line dancing lessons on slow business nights in order to encourage extra business. Line dancing can be enjoyed by both men and women.

Square Dancing

This style of dance has a rather long history and has experienced a good degree of evolution over the past couple of decades. While it was once reserved for hoe downs and such square dancing is quickly becoming a hobby for many people across America and a great way to spend an evening and get to know others who share this hobby. This style of dancing is best enjoyed by couples and can be such great fun if you let your hair down a bit while participating.

Belly Dancing

Belly dancing can be enjoyed by men and women though it is most commonly associated with women. Unless you include the appreciation that goes alone with watching rather than participating and in that case the men may actually outnumber the women. Belly dancing is a very exotic and erotic form of dance that is almost always an audience thriller. It may take years to perfect your belly dancing moves and many study this style of dance their entire lives but it is a great physical activity that is a lot of fun.

Dancing for fun is not only the best reason to dance by far, but it is far too often not the reason that people dance. People dance for competition, for exercise, and for many other reasons but not nearly often enough do we make the moves simply for the pleasure of doing so. If I could make one suggestion to everyone reading it is this. Go out and dance for the sheer joy of dancing.

It costs very little in most homes to simply turn the radio on, draw the shades and dance. You can dance with your significant other, your lifelong partner, and even your children. You do not have to worry about anyone watching and if they are watching you should take pity that they are spending their time worrying about what you are doing rather than dancing around and enjoying life to its fullest.

My friend who wrote this has a great way of connecting life to dance. Se has a vivid imagination, and she is not even a pro dancer. Dancing is great for keeping the bod trim. Read on to get her point of view.

7 Great Reasons to Dance

When it comes to dance there are plenty of wonderful reasons that people elect to dance. The fact remains that far too few of us manage to incorporate dance into our lives nearly as much as we should. There are many wonderful reasons to dance and they do not all require copious amounts of alcohol and someone with a video camera poised for America’s Funniest Home Videos greatness.

Below I will suggest 7 great reasons to incorporate dance into your life as often as possible. I hope that you will take some of these to heart and find a few reasons of your own to dance more often.

Love

There are few greater reasons to dance than to show your love for your partner. You do not have to limit your dancing to your wedding night or an evening out with friends. All you need to dance with the one you love is some good music and a little bit of floor space. Dance while you prepare dinner, wash dishes, or just because it’s raining outside. But dance with the one you love and do it often to keep those flames burning.

Joy

We always hear people talking about dancing for joy but how often do we really see that happen? What a shame it is that we actually take so few opportunities to dance in our society. Dancing is an outward expression of joy that is almost always infectious. Share your joy with the world and you just might find they will dance along with you. Even if they do not, you should at least be secure in the fact that at this moment in time you are much happier than they are.

Fun

When is the last time you’ve danced? Was it fun? I have found very few people (well other than young boys) who did not have any fun while dancing. The truth of the matter is that dancing is fun. Whether you are line dancing or trying the Tango it is great fun to dance.

Flirting

What a wonderful way to flirt dancing can be! If you haven’t tried it with the one you love, there is no time like the present to do so. Find some great fun and flirty music and dance for the one you love. If you’re really lucky, you might even convince them to join in.

To Make Your Children Laugh

Really, there is no better reason on the earth than this to dance. My kids love to see me dance the moves that were popular back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and share their more modern moves with me. It’s a great way to enjoy your children before they decide your evil or during those rare moments when you may be on the verge of neutral in their opinions.

Fitness

While dancing does a lot to lighten the mood and raise your spirits it can also help your heart in other ways as well. Dancing is a great way to get up and moving that doesn’t feel as though it is really exercise. This means that you can help your heart by dancing a little while every day. The longer you dance, the better you will feel and the healthier your heart will become.

Meet New People

If you decide to take lessons for dancing, you will find that you have the ability to meet a bunch of great new people. Dancing is a great way that many people are discovering to have fun and stay fit. This means that more and more people are joining local dance classes for these very reasons. You might develop some lifelong friendships through your dance lessons that you would have missed out on otherwise.

Of course there are many more reasons that different people take up dance. In fact, you may find an all-together different reason to take up dance for yourself. Whatever your reason you decide to dance, do it often and have fun in the process.

You'll Never Walk ALone

You'll Never Walk ALone

I am publishing this article because I have a twisted sense of humor. PLease do not take offense.
1(Imagine a set of dancers costume minimumly doing The Garden Of Eden Twist.
2) From their snake dance (remember Eve’s cunning companion the snake?) flash back a bunch of time to India and the Cobra among a few other friends: snakes, also doinf 2 sets of dance. Indian women really know how to put on a “marvel-l-lo-o-us” shew (Show).

Now imagine the History of man and women teaching MAN to dance, be broadcast through dance gigs instead of WARS! IN stead of Kings and QUeens, and REligions MURDERING millions and millions of people!

The world might just be a better place. “TO dance or not to dance? Is it nobler to….? Read on…
Dancing Through History

Through history we have seen many evolutions of dance. Some of these ancient dances and rituals are still practiced today by those who honor their religious or cultural histories while many have sadly been lost throughout the ages. One thing however remains constant. Dance has always played an important role in the societies, great and small, of the world.

Dating back to the beginning of recorded history dancing has been a vital part of society. Dance was involved in celebrations and preparations for war. Dance was part of rituals and ceremonies of worship. Dance was part of life and we live in a society today that seems to increasingly label dance as a form of entertainment more than a way of life. Perhaps that is part of the reason we have a growing awareness when it comes to depression because fewer people are experiencing the joy of dance.

Did you know that the Spartan warriors used dance in their preparations for battle? They incorporated a ‘weapons dance’ that was designed not only to familiarize themselves with their weaponry but also to help them be more agile when using them. Believe me when I say that very few ever dared question the masculinity of Spartans on the battlefield. These soldiers were prepared for war and a large degree of that is the result of their weapon dances as mental and physical preparation for the art of waging war. With the Spartans war was most definitely an art form.

Oriental Dance was common during what has become known as Biblical times and remains today a very noteworthy form of dance. In fact, Oriental Dances, also referred to as Belly Dancing, seems to be experiencing a rebirth of sorts as its popularity has spread around the globe in recent years. This style of dance has been used as part of religious ceremonies as well as to entice lovers and incite lust and in some cases to represent fertility. Oriental Dance has a long and intriguing history that is well worth further study if you are of the mind to do so.

In Medieval times dance was a social requirement by those of means or holding status. In fact, what we know as ballroom dancing today began during this period and has evolved a little over the years while holding true to its original form to some degree. The church at the time however frowned on dancing though many members of the church not only tolerated dancing but also participated in these dances. After a great deal of pressure from the populace the church did eventually accept and embrace dance.

The movements for the medieval dance steps were said to be rather simple and repetitive. While some of the dances of the day were performed by couples there were many processional or line dances that were popular during this period as well. Who knew the line dancing had such a long and distinguished history?

As times have evolved so has dance. In today’s society dance is often limited to competitions, festivals, and parties rather than the prominence it once held in society. The good news in all this is that dance is no longer for some in society an activity that is solely reserved for the wealthiest among us. Though access to dance lessons, classes, videos, etc. is by no means solid proof that they will be utilized the fact remains that very few cities in the United States do not offer dance classes that are at least marginally affordable for those who participate. Competitive dance is another matter all together however and can bring a significant price tag to those who are unaware or caught off guard. Recreational dance however, often costs little more than the music required with which to dance and the will to dance deep inside. We live in a nation of opportunity, do not squander the opportunity we have to incorporate the simple pleasure of dancing into our daily lives.

Empower Family Budget Planning! Enjoy life now too.

You'll Never Walk ALone

You'll Never Walk ALone

Wow! I am having a great time from listening to a video I used in my last blog. Please go and visit.

Many people get scared by a budget. Horror thoughts about going without and struggling, and oh my goodness, falilure? Lighten up. Your budget is your game plan strategy and saving grace.

If I were to spend $300 a year at a thrift store, I automatically save $30 because of no taxes. If you are in a low tax state maybe $25.00. Now since I am paying way below “new costs” I may also be saving at least another $300, however more likely around $600. Plus I am supporting charity.

Pay off your car and keep it for another 3 years. You would save about $10,000.

Check all your spending and play the game: How much can I save? If you can save $3000 a year, then direct that to paying off your mortgage or buying a house.

Take charge and run the household as an efficient business. Remember though to add a few perks! Happy sailing.

Bring Focus to Family Budgeting

Often times, the family budget is a source of conflict. Most of the time, the major earner makes the final financial decision, which isn’t always a welcome deal for the rest. Since money is such an intrinsic part of family life, families need to achieve accord in this aspect. There is a four-step cycle in budgeting the family money to maintain peace and harmony.

1. Set your priorities.

Priorities are different from goals. They are aspects in your family’s life that you, as a family, want to set focus on, say health or children’s future. While goals are specific targets that support priorities.

In setting priorities, do not set too many as it defeats the purpose. Ideally, there should only be one, but because life is not ideal, 2 to 3 are reasonable.

As the priorities are set and agreed upon, write them down. Post the paper where everybody can see them to remind them of what your family is focused on for the next few years.

2. List down your goals.

Once the family has set and agreed on priorities, the next step is to set the goals. Goals are specific and measurable conditions that, when achieved, will support the priorities.

In setting goals, establish a target that is both challenging yet achievable. A 10-15% of the family’s income is a good savings target for a child’s future education: stretching yet reachable.

Try to limit your family into setting 1-2 goals per priority, to maintain focus.

3. Work towards your goals.

After setting your priorities and goals, start living by them. All of the family’s activities will be geared towards working at your goals. Track progress, particularly on financial goals, by using an income and expense-tracking tool. The simplest way is to get a notebook and list down all expenses and incomes and set a budget for future spending. There are those that invest in computer software or a family accountant. Whatever it is, the important thing is to have a system of monitoring the family’s performance towards achieving their goals.

4. Evaluate your family life.

At a certain point in time, when you feel like it’s time to evaluate your life, check how your family is doing against the goals. Goals that have been achieved can be checked off the list, and new ones can be formulated.

At times, in major changes, say a career move, or when a family member goes away, it may be time to re-evaluate priorities. When such a time comes, then the cycle begins, just like what it’s for: life!

New Assignment: Read, Customize and Add

You'll Never Walk ALone

You'll Never Walk ALone

You may be way ahead of these 10 tips. Good. Get a piece of paper or a cheap notebook and make a list for 20 ways to save money. If tip 1 gets you thinking of 3 other approaches write them down. Ditto for all these tips. Then pick 10 of your ideas and set them into practise. Make notes at least once a week and grade your self. Reward yourself each time you win. Your new habits could change your life!

Ex: You may not be able to pay your credit card bill each month. Try for 100% of new charges. Focus on one card to pay off faster. When it is paid off do the same for the next. Retire 2 cards, no new charges, just pay it down. Try to pay 10% more of minimum payment plus this month’s interest. REad on.

Ten Practical Tips That Save Money

Saving money is not as hard as it seems. Here are ten practical tips that you can do to begin saving money, without changing your lifestyle.

1. Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs. CFL bulbs consume 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs, but give the same illumination. Make sure to buy only lamps and bulbs that have the Energy Star rating to ensure quality compliance.

2. Make a list when going to the grocery and stick to it! Anything that is not on the list is not a “need”, but merely a “want” so avoid busting your pockets for unnecessary items. Buy non-perishable consumables in bulk to benefit from bulk discounts.

3. Use coupons when available. Take the time and have the patience to clip and organize grocery coupons. When added together, savings from using all coupons in one grocery trip can be as much as $20-$30. Purchase dining and shopping coupons online and print them at home. Doing so can save you at least 50% on the face value of the coupons.

4. Buy online, whenever possible. Online stores pass their savings from rental costs and warehousing to the online consumer, thus they can afford as much as 70% off their rack price. When buying items online, Google it first together with the word, “discount code”. This can give you further reductions on the item you want to purchase. Try also online bidding: they offer at least 75% off the original purchase price, for practically new (slightly used!) items.

5. Take lunch to work. Buy potato chips and soda from the grocery and make a homemade sandwich and pack them in a brown bag.

6. Eat homemade dinners as often as possible. Plan menus that are practical and easy-to-cook to encourage eating at home. Save money by dining out only on special occasions.

7. Use everyday pantry items for skin and body care. Cucumbers, honey, milk, lemon, salt and baking soda are some items in your home that can also be used to take care of your skin.

8. Avoid shopping to de-stress. Try walking around the park or watching a movie instead.

9. Bring your own sodas and snacks when watching a movie. The cost of sodas and snacks are at least 25% higher in movie houses. Plus, homemade popcorn tastes much better: you can put on all the salt and butter you want!

10. Pay off your credit card balances each month and avoid finance charges. Better yet, use cash as much as possible, unless using plastic will give you a better deal (0% interest on appliance purchases, or cash rebates).
