Happy New Year - time for some structure

If you’ve been coming here daily for tips, you know, because the title of the blog is Life Tips Daily, you have more likely than not been disappointed. I apologize and I’ll give you a couple of insights and tips about this site.

Although every attempt will be made to update at least five times a week, I may only manage to update three times a week. This is still a good thing because it will be a more regular update than I have been doing for the last two months.

I also want to make sure that you don’t waste your precious time clicking on the link to this site (which is hopefully still in your bookmarks or favourites) when there is no new content. One way you can avoid the disappointment is by subscribing to this blog’s feed. The location of the best explanation that I have ever read of what feeds are, and how they work, has eluded me, but here’s Wikipedia’s say on the matter, though it is not easiest to understand explanation.

What you need to know is this:

Share the love!

Monday, September 17th, 2007

If you would like to do something good for somebody else today, can I encourage you to visit Boho Girl’s site? Today she wrote about the son of a family friend, Grayson, who is dealing with severe ulcerative colitis. It’s so sad to read of someone going through all that Boho Girl has described on her blog.

If you would like to donate to help the family, I’m sure you can, but all that is being asked for you is to visit his care page and leave a positive message for him and his family. To get there, visit Care Pages (username: blogfamily, password: grayrocks) and head to the message board.

Please read this entry for all the details, and to see pictures of Grayson and his family and more about this amazing boy.

Thank you

Email challenged? Never fear, Jummy is on the case!

Friday, May 18th, 2007

If you agonize over writing emails and worry that you’re not saying what you mean to say the moment you click “send”, I urge you to save your emails in draft form until Monday. That’s right: on Monday May 21, I will be sharing an interview with an expert in the area of business etiquette, especially as it relates to emails and online communication.

In the meantime, I’d like you to tell me what email blunders cause you to grit your teeth.

Mine include:

  • Being addressed by an incorrectly spelled name by somebody replying to an email I sent where my name is spelled out
  • Misleading/unclear subject titles
  • Emails riddled with incorrect spelling and grammar
  • A constant stream of forwards from someone without any real emails from them to break things up

And don’t get me started on spam!

Globe and Mail’s new Life section

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Iin addition to shrinking the size of its paper, the Globe and Mail launched a new section of its newspaper yesterday, Globe Life. This new section will provide readers with news on all aspects of life including health, family, relationships, food and wine, and the home–a range of topics that will be covered by a number of experts and professionals. I’m looking forward to reading this section, which, unlike some of the newspaper’s other sections, will be published every weekday.

If you don’t get this paper locally, feel free to check on the Life section online

Edited to add: When inspired, I’ll include a story from the paper that touched me or gave me food for thought (or both). Today’s is ‘I’ve had it with your weight’, Cameron French’s essay about how his former best friend’s obesity led to the end of their relationship. What do you think of French’s tough love approach?

Welcome to Life Tips Daily!

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I am your new host, Jummy, and I plan to feed you all sorts of tips that will improve your life. The tips will cover a range of areas of life, and suggestions and comments from you are not only very welcome, but they are what will drive this site.

A little about me: I’m a Canadian who was born in the USA to Nigerian parents so I have a triple identity going. I studied science and general arts in university which makes me a great match for my day job which features in part, scientific writing. I love too many things, from dancing, to writing, reading love stories, scrapbooking and baking. I’m organized when I need to be but my room is a very poor reflection of this claim. I still live at home. I’m the oldest of four children. My parents are my heroes.

I hope you enjoy the site and find that its tips improve your life.

*tap tap* Is This Thing On?

Friday, October 13th, 2006

As of right now, it is! So welcome to Life Tips Daily!

Today is the first day of existence for this little realm of mine, and I must say that I’m very excited to finally see it up and running. I logged onto the system this evening and put in all my profile details and looked around the place; you know, breaking it in.

This post is just an introductory one, as my later ones will probably be set up in a specific format with my daily life tip presented prominently at the top. I will be trying my very best to stay on topic, but I fear that I am notorious for random tangents so the section of the post following the life tip of the day may very well be an unrelated discussion on things I’m thinking about, my philosophies, my experiences and what I’ve learned from them…maybe even video games. :)

Tune in tomorrow for the first “real” post.
