Out on the range, we love to look up information

Just a plug for my previous sleep blog. I actually listened to the complete, rather long video. It has so many great points about SLEEP…well worth taking your time to listen to the doctor.

I checked out a pingback, and found this fun “resource” blog. Click to go to it as, you will see below some of the topics that you can quickly peruse. If any of these topics are of interest to you, ley me know! Guess I’ll have to favorite it for future reference.

http://www.aerodesigns.co.uk/blog/2007/05/problogger-top-5-writing-contest/

We are pleased to say that we have submitted an entry into the group writing project / competition that has just been held at Problogger.net. The idea was to submit a ‘top 5′ article, as interesting and creative as possible. The competition lasted three days, and the winner is yet to be announced. The sponsor of the article was Chitika, who are offering a $1,000 cash prize. Thanks ProBlogger by the way for hosting the competition! The following list is a list of yesterday’s entrants:

Hey, I know you have it in you to succeed! Just keep the hay coming please...

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/TechnicalTidbits

As I was visiting Twitter.com, I was reminded about the blogradio site listed above. This is a great resource, and maybe someday I’ll even create a blog. Click the link, and peruse the topics, as you almost surely will find a topic that would interest you.

So today’s brief topic will be an intro to a good night’s sleep. On and off over the years I have experienced anything from disrupted sleep to outright insomnia. I simply accepted this as my normal state of being until a few years ago. I had lots oways to compensate.

Then while working at a healthfood store, I discovered powdered magnesium. Short story, for many people, it is an inexpensive way to get great sleep. (It works better than pills, helps over 350 functions in the body, and as I said works.)

I love products that work on more than one issue. So on and off I have used this product. I even discovered that I could go long times off and still sleep. Until recently. Bodies and stress can change.

My D.O.M. Daniel Cobb, went to work on this new dilema. There are millions of people who share such distress. He decided to experiment with with Magnesium oil. If the body is for whatever reason, not effectively absorbing magnesium, this solution can be applied topically. Presto! This works too.

However, some people like me, have really sensitive skin, and after awhile, some people may have a mild reaction. So Dr Daniel Cobb did more research. Although, I have not tried it yet, applying a little caster oil topically also seems to work.

So here are three ways to try for a good night’s sleep.

What are the benefits to you?
-improved skin
-more energy
-clearer thinking
-assists heart health
-improves mood. You can keep adding to the list.

Just eat along the way....

Just eat along the way....

Well I haven’t shown up for a few days. I begin to feel guilty, however my life seems a bit twisted lately.

1)Just eat along the way is a great way to start. If you ever get a bit stressed, or even frantic, or overwhelmed: just graze a bit. It can really help if you choose healthy snacks.

2) Be here now, which often irks many local residents. For me it’s easiest in my acupuncture’s office. There’s so much being shared that I can barely take all the information in. However I am very “present” there, and can even sometimes relax.

Find a special place where you can focus and be present. If you can do it with a friend, I’ve a “notion” that empowers both of you and accelerates healing/connection.

3)Breathe. Relax, and be patient.

4)If a fury has cast itself upon you, and a lot seems to be going wrong, forgive yourself. Start again tomorrow. The world probably will still be here.

5) Drink water. Clean, unpolluted water. Often.

6) Did you take you vitamins today? Saturday I was able to go from rock bottom to animated because of some combo I took. Wish I knew just what I took.

7)Exhaustion may reappear. Schedule some time to rest.

8)Visit sunshine daily. Even if only for five minutes.

9) Swim and sauna.

10) Can’t do some of the above. Create your own list. When everything gets too much, have a plan to pull out to remind you of what you need.

Stay strong!

Stay strong!

Have you heard of upstream video? Well today, I am listening to Gateway to Wealth for free. I always like learning new stuff, especially if I can apply it to my business. As I was also doing other tasks, I took only a few notes. Powerful lecture…it is going on all weekend!

Points: If you have something to share, teach, or promote the following is tremendously valuable. You can create your own “media” outlet.

If you are someone who wants to have access to those who have something to promote, share, or teach….choose the media you want to see and hear.

You can readily remember learning new stuff whether it is how to fry grasshoppers or chaos theory in physics is good food for the brain. Especially as you get older. Listening to a seminar such as this may spark another idea that could transform your life. Seriously.

Short story: Long ago I wanted to change my career and life. I had programmed myself with many limitations even though I had blown away a lot of traditional approaches to career development already. I was selling computers in a Radio Shack store when an early graphics program became available. I saw a way that I could develop and market my art career. Within six months I was in art school. I fell in love with painting. One idea opened a door that I could….

Now the power of video was demonstated this morning, when Lynn Pierce stood up and did an endorsement to the speaker. I figure there are maybe 1000 or more people watching this show(I was only listening). In less than 20 seconds she did a complete commercial.
I went to her site to see what she is up to. I copied it.

Ah the tree survives

Ah the tree survives

I had a long busy day today, and after work, slid down a slippery slide into a temporary funk. As I mulled circumstances over, other than having more to do than I can get to, there’s no apparent reason to feel that way. Somehow I will get through this.

I actually accomplished quite a bit, and for this I am grateful. I still have a few things to do, and I can work on them tonight and tomorrow. It’s a beautiful full moon. Thus if I am a bit moody, I can say the moon is tugging at my emotions. Good news: I am not hungry. No aches in that category. I still have my PT job.

Thus by momentarily reflecting, my gratefullness supercedes the funk. In an odd way, I change my perspective. The following is an email that I thought you might find useful. Mary

Hi Mary

Thank you to everyone who jumped on the chance to be a test
subject for my new self study coaching program. We did find
a couple one bug that we resolved, but other than that no
other issues. There are still a couple of spots left if you
would like to test the program as well.

http://www.selfstudycoaching.com

I spend quite of bit of time last night talking with my son who
has had several issues happen in his life lately that has him
feeling a little overwhelmed and hopeless.

I am sure we all can feel this way at one time or another, as
life like to deal us unexpected surprises now and then.

Today’s article is 10 questions you can ask yourself during the
times when things are seeming to go a little off track. Some
may apply to the situation and some may not. I have included all
10 questions because they are a great set of questions to have on
hand to review on a regular basis, not just in troubled times.

<>——–<>——–<>——–<>——–<>
Article: 10 Questions To Ask Yourself
<>——–<>——–<>——–<>——–<>

Occassionally we are presented with problems, it is a fact of life.
Even though other people tell us these situations shouldn’t bother
us, that is a little easier to say that to experience.

However, it is easier to sail through difficult situation when we
are clear on what we want out of life. By being clear, we can make
choices in rough times that are in line with our ideals and our
desired outcomes.

We we are not clear, we are prone to scrambling to solve the issue
with some quick-fix solution. This often makes things worse.

1. What do I really want?
The question of the ages. So many things you want to do with your
life and so little time to even make it through the day. How do I
know what I really want.

First, make a list of things you don’t want. Then use this list
to create a second list of the things you do want. Usually the
things you do want is the exact opposite of the things you don’t
want so sort through them to discouver what it is you do want.

2. Should I really change?
Today’s generation has taken another level of redefining ’self’, or
at least that’s what the kids are saying. Having an army of teenage
kids wandering through my home at any given time has taught me that
there are far worse things that they could have had than acne or
maybe even promiscuity. So define if you really do need to change,
or are things not as bad as you are making them to be?

3. What’s the bright side in all of this?
With so much is happening around us there seem to be no room for
even considering that light at the end of the tunnel. We can still
see it as something positive without undergoing so much scrutiny.
And if it’s a train at the end of the tunnel, take it for a ride
and see what makes the world go round!

4. Am I comfortable with what I’m doing?
There’s always the easy way and the right way when it comes to
deciding what goes with which shoes, or purse, shirt, or whatnot.
It doesn’t take a genius to see yourself as someone unique, or else
we’ll all be equally the same in everything we do. Variety brings
in very interesting and exciting questions to be experimented.

5. Have I done enough for myself?
Have you, or is there something more you want to do? Discontentment
in every aspect can be dangerous in large doses, but in small
amounts you’ll be able to see and do stuff you could never imagine
doing.

6. Am I happy at where I am today?
If you love being a good and loving mom or dad to your kids, or if
you love where you work, or if you love who you are married to, then
take it up a notch! But if you are not happy with these things, can
you change them or find a way to see them through new eyes that lets
you enjoy them more?

7. Am I appealing to the opposite sex?
So maybe I don’t have an answer to that, but that doesn’t mean I
can’t try. Whether you get in shape, change the way you wear your
clothes or hair, or even your attitude towards people, you should
always remember you have to be happy with who you are first and
foremost.

8. How much could I have?
I suppose in this case it’s not a matter of having too much or too
little, but it’s more on how badly you really need it. People want
to have lots of money, there’s no denying that, so the question
should be .. ‘how much are you willing to work for it?’

9. What motivates me?
What motivates you? It’s an answer you have to find out for
yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy,
but to choose one of the may be the hardest part. It’s not like you
can’t have one serving of your favorite food in a buffet and that’s
it. Just try it piece by piece.

10. What Really Makes You Tick?
So? What really makes you tick? You can be just about anything you
always wanted to be, but to realize that attaining something that
may seem very difficult is already giving up before you even start
that journey. Always remember, that self-improvement is not just
about the physical or philosophical change you have to undergo, but
it’s something that you really want.

EFT and You? Healing on multiple levels.

Emotional Freedom Techniques.

If you really want to start healing your woes, here’s a technique you can use often. Also if you want different styles of this technique, go to youtube and see all the videos.
I was surprised tonight to learn that these techniques were based on acupuncture and knowledge about meridians. One day my DOM Daniel Cobb said, I downloaded the manuel so let’s see if this helps.

I was pleased that he brought EFT into our sessions, as we were both needing to find a way to work on my emotional blocks. In our sessions we are not directly dealing with the emotions, we’ll focus on a part of the body for the day. Dr Dan also expands the correlation of other acupuncture points into the eft cycles. This provides a dramatic relaxation and integration for the acupuncture session.

How does this relate to you? If you were to watch the videos and take notes, or find a youtube video on eft that directly is about your concerns, then you can begin your personal tapping sessions.

If you download the manual, you can teach yourself more. If you have a practioner or friend who can do this with you, you can expand your release. Dr Dan mentioned how in the first few weeks we did this work, that he actually starting feeling beeter too.

I encourage that you find a way to try these techniques to open your life to a healthier, less tense, and productive experience. Life can be wonderful, and then it can expand even further. May these suggestions help you in your everyday life. Emotional Freedom Techniques. As always I welcome your thoughts and comments.

Personal Green Plans: Create Project lists

Thursday, March 5th, 2009
I'm re-using my photos...photo by Mary MacIntyre

I'm re-using my photos...photo by Mary MacIntyre

Many of you are sophisticated conservationists. You may have already started the most common green changes. You may even be buying most of your clothes at thrift shops. Here’s where the challenges become even more fun. Perhaps even bigger.

Water conservation is an example of another great green project. Yes industrial water use needs to be altered, even Pepsi or Coca Cola are making water saving programs. We can too.

In a recent report from Santa Fe NM, our wells are actualy improving. It was a curious report 24 improved, 11 went down. There is some hope here, because in years of drought we made some progress.

Using excess water often also uses more power. Thus evaluate all ways in the house that when you use more water, you compound other energy useage. Make a list of 30 ways to save water in your home. Small changes make a big difference. You can pick any area of concern in your home, or something you are already doing, and consider expanding that list. It may make a big difference in your savings, and helping the planet.

Having success with your green plans? Share and create small workshops to help others do the same.

Now if you are going to complete an energy check of your home, invite the whole family to participate. Make lists. Where is there room for improvement? Is there a bigger project that could help you save? Are there health savings that you could create?

I’d love to have solar power: out of budget for now. However, in the summer I can not use the AC. I love to garden, so this year I’m planning ways to have more small water catching systems. Low budget. Last year my friend saved to repair her roof. Got a new type of roofing and has save lots of money on heat this winter.

Got kids? You might create a small clothing exchange with other families to pass on and recycle old clothes. As a child just one family who gave my Mom old clothes kept me in great quality clothes for years. My Mom also sewed, so her reduction in clothes expenditures was significant. My sister wouldn’t wear my hand me downs. The families did not have boys. As I was an adolescent for awhile, a single woman who was a sister of my Mom’s best friend, gave me all her party dresses that she’d never wear again. Primo stuff.

Perhaps you create a project idea that you don’t have a budget for. Yard sale time! Reduce your waste of old things unused, and create the budget for…

If you do create a new Green Project, send me your ideas. I’d love to hear what you are doing, and if you want I can share it with others. Feel free to copy this and pass it on.

Check the list(s) 2X’s, How many Green tips do you do?

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

img_3092a photo by Mary MacIntyre So I’m on a run: today I’ll expand the list of Green Ideas. Spring will be here soon, and too Earth Day. I invite your creative suggestions. Many of these ideas may only touch the surface, or may not pertain directly to you. A friend of mine was stumped last spring about what else she could do. She realized that if she got a new toaster instead of using her oven, that would help. Another friend of mine got a toaster that a client no longer wanted with special “senior” protect features. Worked great for my low income senior friend.

Use the energy-saver setting on your dishwasher.

Wash clothes in cold water.

Turn off running water while brushing your teeth.

Step into the shower as soon as it is warm enough.

Reduce trash: give away or donate used clothes, books and household items.

Save and reuse mailing bubble, wrap and boxes.

Try baking soda and white vinegar for household cleaning.

Send email instead of snail mail.

Recycle printer cartridges and old cell phones.

Donate or recycle computers and peripherals.

Turn down the heat when you leave the house for the day and when you sleep.

Wrap your water heater for more efficient heating.

Investigate signing up for units of wind power from your electric company.

Think about walking or biking to work occasionally.

Start to read product labels and learn which ingredients in cosmetics, shampoos, and household cleaners are dangerous to your health and to the environment.

Look for products that are labeled “no animal testing.”

Contact your legislators to support green legislation.

If you have seldom-used appliances, like an extra refrigerator, unplug it when it is not being used.

Use power strips to turn off TVs and stereos to save the energy equivalent of a 100-watt light bulb that’s always on.

Switch to NiMH rechargeable batteries for alarm clocks, remotes, and small appliances.

Unplug chargers (think cell phones and IPods) when not in use.  Only 5% of the power drawn by a cell phone charger is used to charge the phone.  The other 95% is wasted when it is left plugged into the wall.

In winter months, draw curtains and use tight-fitting, insulating window shades. Storm windows reduce heat loss through the windows by 25 to 50% (but if it’s nice out, open shades on the sunny part of your home to harness the sun’s heat).
Configure your computer to “hibernate” automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity, and shut it down when you are done for the day (yes, we know there are naysayers out there – we stand by our research).
Use ceiling fans in the summer AND winter. By reversing the direction of the blades in the winter, warm air is pushed down, and heat is distributed throughout the house.
Unplug seldom-used appliances such as an extra refrigerator to shave up to $10 off your monthly utility bill.

2 birds nests on one cactus!

2 birds nests on one cactus!

Photo by Mary MacIntyre Last night was a tough one. 1) Connectivity problems. 2) Computer errors. 3) Then it appeared that my computer died. It was late, and I felt irritated. This morning I checked my mouse: it had died. At least this is a new day and and I’m able to write again. As I did not sleep well either, I started checking out articles I had saved on my computer.

Some tips to go green seemed liked a great way to start. Even with the turmoil in our country, continually learning what we can do still needs to be considered. Saving money and reducing pollution at once: cool. Reduce waste when possible.
(As this was an article given to me, I’ll add a few comments.)

Go Green at Home
20 Ways to Go Green
And save money, be healthier and feel good along the way

Buy kitchen cloths: ditch paper towels (good if you can wash in a small basin or don’t have to increase a laundry load much. Save water at home too. The basin’s water can be used on outdoor plants)

Buy bathroom glasses: ditch the paper bathroom cups.

Use borax instead of bleach.

See how little you can use of everything: use the very least dish soap, shampoo, conditioner, laundry soap.
(Buy concentrates when possible. No phosphates, eco conscious when possible. 1/2 suggested use often works.)

Buy the largest size to cut down on packaging. (Many city dwellers, seniors, and singles can’t do this due to small apartments and waste concerns. Big can of beans:nada. When possible choose items with re-useable packaging or bio degradeable packaging.)

Reuse containers.

Buy recycled paper goods.

Use both sides of computer paper for rough drafts.

Use the “economy” and “gray tones” setting of your printer to stretch your cartridges.

Buy strong shopping bags to replace throwaway bags from supermarkets.

Share your newspapers and magazines with friends and neighbors. Or recycle at your library.

Inform charitable organizations and catalogue companies that you don’t want your name shared.

Register with Mail Preference Service so you don’t get direct mail. Send your name and address, with zip code, to Mail Preference Service (DMA), P.O. Box 9008, Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008.

Tell telemarketers to take your name and address off their call and mailing lists.

Replace incandescent bulbs with long lasting, energy saving compact fluorescent bulbs. If you think you may not like the light, start with basement, closets and outdoor fixtures.

Turn out lights, television, radio and IPod dock when you leave the room. (Unplug as many appliances that you don’t use frequently so that they don’t pull electricity when off.

Put entertainment and computer centers on power strips and turn off the strips when they are not in use.

Unplug the phone charger when it is not in use.

Reuse plastic bags for doggie cleanup. (Not! Use small bags from previous purchases.)

Switch to NiMH rechargeable batteries.

Defrost in the refrigerator instead of the microwave.

Instead of buying throwaway bottled water, put a water filter on your kitchen faucet.

Buy organic.

Buy local.

Install motion detectors in your outdoor lights.

Replace plastic wrap and plastic bags with glass and plastic kitchen storage containers.

Tips? Apologize in advance?

These troubles started awhile back when I allowed myself to be talked into attending a party that I did not want to go to.

Tip 1: Be brave enough to swim against the tide. This turned out to not be easy for me. I tried several times, albeit weakly.

Orginally, we were suppose to have a party for a friend of frirends. I was told that we would bring food to her house. I could deal with that. Then the party was changed to an expensive restaurant. I had the opportunity to decline a second time. I thought I’d have to drive my friend…that turned out to be wrong. My other friend wanted me to help with decorations.

On the day of the party everything went wrong. As I knew there would be little on the menu that I could eat I wanted to eat before I left. Business tasks piled up and I had to leave w/out eating. I got to the restaurant in time to set up. Firend # 1 picked the table. We were all ready when the others arrived and did not want the table. I sent friend #1 to deal with it. She probably did not appreciate that. There was no way I wanted to be in the middle of that decision.

The party seemed odd. Hardly anyone talkedto the birthday woman. Friend #2 tried to be critical and grumpy with me at every opportunity she could.

I tried to shut up. More went wrong, and when it was time to leave, I did not even handle that graciously.

More actually went wrong. My food was awful. I felt bad. Probably a bit of low blood pressure. Got a bad headache. Had to go to work. Got home and my main computer wouldn’t work. Also got a message from my friend #1 that swimming is off tomorrow which means she’s most likely not feeling good and probaly is mad at me.

More tips?
Avoid honesty when the party is going bad.
Well lost part of this, so I’ll return later.

Ah the tree survives

Ah the tree survives

Not everyone will find a magical park, near an arroyo that is safely and soundly constructed. I lucked out. It has swings big enough for adults. Families flock here from the nearby neighborhoods. It’s small, and young children’s laughter supercedes songbirds’ whistling songs. Many parents and grandparents are wired to thier cell phones whilst the children run rampantly about. Apparently one of their favorite games is: chase.

On my first visit, I discovered that there were adult size swings. Everyone stared at this white haired round lady swinging. I wasn’t wired either. I had no kids. After a bit, I wandered off on the trail and took a leisurely long walk. Check out your local park: how many single women in their 50’s are present? 60’s?

On my second visit I used other playground equipment as well for balance exercises and stretching. As I watched a grandmother really working her grandson on the monkey bars, I sugessted that she try it too. Oh no I weigh too much. No you don’t I said as I walked away. Just try it for a few seconds. A little later I turned around and she was trying it.

Today, a young Mother on crutches came with her family and she was about to sit down when I invited her to swing. I said it wold be good for her circulation. SHe came and was glad, because she could do several exercises easily in the sun.

Later as I returned for a final stretch on hand grip bars (different from the monkey bars), I actually began talking to a young boy. Suddenly his father appeared. White haired ladies are very dangerous you know. I talked briefly with the Dad, and explained what a good stretch I could do. After my walk, I saw him doing the same. Perhaps, I have started a trend. Need a spring boost? Listen to children laugh.

The kid got my swing!

The kid got my swing!

Once upon a time, I lived in New England: most of my life….
Then I moved to Baltimore to attend ART SCHOOL. Grad school in Kansas, and now 15 years in New Mexico. The SW has cradled me, especially with the shorter winters.

This winter has been frightfully short. We could have used, and may still get more snow. Warmer weater, and lighter evenings has definitely sprouted Spring Fever. So if you are stillbearing blassting cold winds, gray skies, or snowy fields, here’s a dash of warmth to carry you through. At least your black flies have not burst into attack yet.
1) I feel like cleaning the house. It’s long overdue, however this too shall pass.
2) I keep bumping into singing birds. Ahhh!
3) The sun wakes me up earlier: hey sun I am a night owl!
4) I have to consider if I need to turn up the heat.
5) My yard is laughing: ha, ha MOre weeds sprouting.
6) I wonder if the lilac buds will survive the next frost.
7) I pray that the barrel of veggie leftover will make compost in time.
8) I dream of spring rains: no clouds in sight: they are on vacation.
9) Bees are buzzing. Wierd. (Too early)
10) I can sunbath briefly each day.
11) I saw a huge hawk the other day. It did not like my singing.
12) Adults have begun joining me playing on playground equipment in the park. I’ve lost my wierd status.
13)Doves are running into bushes to hang out or have some privacy.

I’m still waiting for strawberry season. You see Spring will burst for and so many will fall in love (hearts a flutter). Clothing colors will change, and may everyone have meaningful employment. Mainers watch out: Mud season is guaranteed.
