ask a buffalo

ask a buffalo

Mother Nature always has many paths that can lean toward health. As a vegetarian I am always looking for plants support for health which is more than one blog’s subject. Also if you have more veggie ideas for amino acids let me know.

Here’s a few links, and email reply to Dr Dan’s COLLAGEN (previous post)

Hi Dan,

A well known herbalist form GAIA herbs, gave a talk last year. He pointed out as an aside that red algae helps cartilage grow a braided structure (3 strands) which is more like it’s original form. Often when cartilage is torn is repairs in in two layers on top of one another (not as strong).

Agar turns out to be a red algae, thus also suggesting it is high in DHA. Joint food. Read:

http://www.nutraingredients.com/content/search?SearchText=red+algae+joints

I take both. Also I ask you: What doe whales, fish, and sharks eat? They are all full of cartilage, hmm and tendons? I’m sure you won’t miss the mention that agar also is a good source of vitamin B5.

Thank you for the collagen send as I would not have done this review on agar if you had done been so kind. Mary

My real search includes ways we can generate new growth, and keep cell generation and communication healthy and active. Horsetail, cell food, and some super foods seem to suggest these possibilities. The body will heal with enough nutrients, energy, and nuturing environment.

However, when you are in pain, and the body is sending out numerous messages that life is grumbling, find supplements and foods that will jumpstart the healing. Also see some good alternative practioners like my D.O.M., Daniel Cobb 505.424.9528 (Santa Fe NM)

Now what could you do with this?

Now what could you do with this?

This is an intense article, by the way, hit the link for the rest of the story. In working with Dr Daniel Cobb 505.424.9527 call him for a consultation, he suggested that I use collagen for joint issues. As a vegetarian, I did not want to, but since I am working with Dr Dan, I decided to try it, and I must admit it helps. Collagen creates a “glue” effect for tattered, strained, worn out tired tendons and cartilage. When you read the article you’ll see collagen does a lot more.

At a potluck I mentioned the collagen issue, in front of Dan and a colleague of his. His response today was to send me the article. I guess there was discussion regarding my comment. However what did the vegetarian dinosauers do to keep their collagen healthy? Have fun, and despite a few comments suggesting that collagen doesn’t work as well, try it because Dr Robert Campbell has even more testimonies saying that it does! Try it. (I am not a practiioner. Collagen is a food supplement. It may or may not have any results for you.)

Collagen
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Tropocollagen triple helix.Collagen is the main protein of connective tissue in animals and the most abundant protein in mammals,[1] making up about 25% to 35% of the whole-body protein content. In muscle tissue it serves as a major component of endomysium. Collagen constitutes 1% to 2% of muscle tissue, and accounts for 6% of the weight of strong, tendinous muscles.[2] The gelatin used in food and industry is derived from the partial hydrolysis of collagen.

[edit] Uses
Collagen is one of the long, fibrous structural proteins whose functions are quite different from those of globular proteins such as enzymes. Tough bundles of collagen called collagen fibers are a major component of the extracellular matrix that supports most tissues and gives cells structure from the outside, but collagen is also found inside certain cells. Collagen has great tensile strength, and is the main component of fascia, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, bone and skin. Along with soft keratin, it is responsible for skin strength and elasticity, and its degradation leads to wrinkles that accompany aging. It strengthens blood vessels and plays a role in tissue development. It is present in the cornea and lens of the eye in crystalline form. It is also used in cosmetic surgery and burns surgery. Hydrolyzed collagen can play an important role in weight management, as a protein, it can be advantageously used for its satiating power.[citation needed]

[edit] Industrial uses
If collagen is sufficiently hydrolyzed, the three tropocollagen strands separate partially or completely into globular domains, containing a different secondary structure to the normal collagen polyproline II (PPII), e.g. random coils. This process describes the formation of gelatin, which is used in many foods, including flavored gelatin desserts. Besides food, gelatin has been used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and photography industries.[3] From a nutritional point of view, collagen and gelatin are a poor-quality sole source of protein since they do not contain all the essential amino acids in the proportions that the human body requires—they are not ‘complete proteins’ (as defined by food science, not that they are partially structured. Manufacturers of collagen-based dietary supplements claim that their products can improve skin and fingernail quality as well as joint health. However, mainstream scientific research has not shown strong evidence to support these claims. Individuals with problems in these areas are more likely to be suffering from some other underlying condition (such as normal aging, dry skin, arthritis etc.) rather than just a protein deficiency.

From the Greek for glue, kolla, the word collagen means “glue producer” and refers to the early process of boiling the skin and sinews of horses and other animals to obtain glue. Collagen adhesive was used by Egyptians about 4,000 years ago, and Native Americans used it in bows about 1,500 years ago. The oldest glue in the world, carbon-dated as more than 8,000 years old, was found to be collagen—used as a protective lining on rope baskets and embroidered fabrics, and to hold utensils together; also in crisscross decorations on human skulls.[4] Collagen normally converts to gelatin, but survived due to the dry conditions. Animal glues are thermoplastic, softening again upon reheating, and so they are still used in making musical instruments such as fine violins and guitars, which may have to be reopened for repairs—an application incompatible with tough, synthetic plastic adhesives, which are permanent. Animal sinews and skins, including leather, have been used to make useful articles for millennia.

Gelatin-resorcinol-formaldehyde glue (and with formaldehyde replaced by less-toxic pentanedial and ethanedial) has been used to repair experimental incisions in rabbit lungs.[5]

[edit] Medical uses
Collagen has been widely used in cosmetic surgery, as a healing aid for burn patients for reconstruction of bone and a wide variety of dental, orthopedic and surgical purposes. Some points of interest are:

when used cosmetically, there is a chance of allergic reactions causing prolonged redness; however, this can be virtually eliminated by simple and inconspicuous patch testing prior to cosmetic use, and
most medical collagen is derived from young beef cattle (bovine) from certified BSE (Bovine spongiform encephalopathy) free animals. Most manufacturers use donor animals from either “closed herds”, or from countries which have never had a reported case of BSE such as Australia, Brazil and New Zealand.
porcine (pig) tissue is also widely used for producing collagen sheet for a variety of surgical purposes.
alternatives using the patient’s own fat, hyaluronic acid or polyacrylamide gel are readily available.
Collagens are widely employed in the construction of artificial skin substitutes used in the management of severe burns. These collagens may be derived from bovine, equine or porcine, and even human, sources and are sometimes used in combination with silicones, glycosaminoglycans, fibroblasts, growth factors and other substances.

Collagen is also sold commercially as a joint mobility supplement[6]. This lacks supportive research as the proteins would just be broken down into its base amino acids during digestion, and could go to a variety of places besides the joints depending upon need and DNA orders.

Recently an alternative to animal-derived collagen has become available. Although expensive, this human collagen, derived from donor cadavers, placentas and aborted fetuses, may minimize the possibility of immune reactions.

Although it cannot be absorbed through the skin, collagen is now being used as a main ingredient for some cosmetic makeup.[7]

[edit] Conformation and structure
Collagen structure is complex. Its conformation can be considered at the monomeric level (individual) collagen molecules and/or at its aggregate level, how the monomers are arranged i.e. their packing structure (fibrils, networks, etc. - see table below)[8].

[edit] History and Background
The molecular and packing structures of collagen have eluded scientists for decades; the first evidence that it possess a regular structure at the molecular level was presented in the mid-1930s [9] [10]. Since that time many prominent scholars, including (but not limited to) Nobel laureate Crick, and Pauling, Rich, Yonath, Brodsky, Berman and Ramachandran concentrated on the conformation of the collagen monomer. Several competing models although correctly dealing with the conformation of each individual peptide chain, gave way to the triple-helical “Madras” model which provided an essentially correct model of the molecule’s quaternary structure [11][12][13] although this model still required some refinement [14][15][16][17]. The packing structure of collagen has not been defined to the same degree outside of the fibrillar collagen types, although it has been long known to be hexagonal or quasi-hexagonal [18][19][20].As with its monomeric structure, several conflicting models alleged that either the packing arrangement of collagen molecules is ‘sheet-like’ or microfibrillar [21][22]. Recently it was confirmed that the microfibrillar structure as described by Fraser, Miller, Wess (amongst others) was closest to the observed structure, although it over-simplified the topological progression of neighboring collagen molecules and hence did not predict the correct conformation of the discontinuous D-periodic pentameric arrangement termed simply: the microfibril [23].

[edit] Molecular Structure
The tropocollagen or “collagen molecule” is a subunit of larger collagen aggregates such as fibrils. It is approximately 300 nm long and 1.5 nm in diameter, made up of three polypeptide strands (called alpha peptides), each possessing the conformation of a left-handed helix (its name is not to be confused with the commonly occurring alpha helix, a right-handed structure). These three left-handed helices are twisted together into a right-handed coiled coil, a triple helix or “super helix”, a cooperative quaternary structure stabilized by numerous hydrogen bonds. With type I collagen and possibly all fibrillar collagens if not all collagens, each triple-helix associates into a right-handed super-super-coil that is referred to as the collagen microfibril. Each microfibril is interdigitated with its neighboring microfibrils to a degree that might suggest that they are individually unstable although within collagen fibrils they are so well ordered as to be crystalline.

A distinctive feature of collagen is the regular arrangement of amino acids in each of the three chains of these collagen subunits. The sequence often follows the pattern Gly-Pro-Y or Gly-X-Hyp, where X and Y may be any of various other amino acid residues. Proline or hydroxyproline constitute about 1/6 of the total sequence. With Glycine accounting for the 1/3 of the sequence, this means that approximately half of the collagen sequence is not glycine, proline or hydroxyproline, a fact often missed due to the distraction of the unusual GXY character of collagen alpha-peptides. This kind of regular repetition and high glycine content is found in only a few other fibrous proteins, such as silk fibroin. 75-80% of silk is (approximately) -Gly-Ala-Gly-Ala- with 10% serine—and elastin is rich in glycine, proline, and alanine (Ala), whose side group is a small, inert methyl group. Such high glycine and regular repetitions are never found in globular proteins save for very short sections of their sequence. Chemically-reactive side groups are not needed in structural proteins as they are in enzymes and transport proteins, however collagen is not quite just a structural protein. Due to its key role in the determination of cell phenotype, cell adhesion, tissue regulation and infrastructure, many sections of its non-proline rich regions have cell or matrix association / regulation roles. The relatively high content of Proline and Hydroxyproline rings, with their geometrically constrained carboxyl and (secondary) amino groups, along with the rich abundance of glycine, accounts for the tendency of the individual polypeptide strands to form left-handed helices spontaneously, without any intrachain hydrogen bonding.

Because glycine is the smallest amino acid with no side-chain, it plays a unique role in fibrous structural proteins. In collagen, Gly is required at every third position because the assembly of the triple helix puts this residue at the interior (axis) of the helix, where there is no space for a larger side group than glycine’s single hydrogen atom. For the same reason, the rings of the Pro and Hyp must point outward. These two amino acids help stabilize the triple helix—Hyp even more so than Pro—a lower concentration of them is required in animals such as fish, whose body temperatures are lower than most warm-blooded animals.

“Million-Dollar Secret
That Can Change Your Life”
Lesson 1

By Dr. Robert Anthony,
creator of “The Secret of Deliberate Creation”
Lesson 1

First of all, I want to take this opportunity to welcome you and thank you for your faith and confidence in me to allow me to share this information with you.

You have heard the saying that a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. You have just taken that step. Congratulations!

If you’re like most people, your life is very busy. However, for the next 6 days please take the time to read each lesson. It will only take a few minutes.

I will reveal the Million Dollar Secret That Can Change Your Life after we have covered some basic material that is essential to understanding how this secret works.

You may even figure it out before I tell you. Either way, relax and enjoy the course. Each lesson builds on the one before, so please do not make any judgments until you have completed the entire series of lessons.

With that in mind…… Let’s get right into it!

I would like to start off by asking you a question - Do you know WHY you are reading this right now?

Your answer might be “I came across your website on a search engine”, or “A friend told me about your program”, or it might be any other number of “LOGICAL” reasons.

The important thing is this: It doesn’t matter if there is a LOGICAL explanation or not. The fact that you are reading this means that there is something that you are seeking, but you haven’t discovered how to manifest it in your life yet.

It may have something to do with your business, your finances, your health, your relationships - or even something intangible, like peace of mind.

But until you understand what I am about to reveal, which is HOW things flow in and out of your life, you will never be able to CONSCIOUSLY create the life you desire.

On the other hand, once you know the Million Dollar Secret That Can Change Your Life, you will FINALLY be able to achieve your dreams and goals, one after the other, in a rapid, easy, stress-free manner.

I am sure I don’t have to tell you that your mind is your most powerful tool for achieving anything you want in life. However, since everyone (well, almost everyone:) has a mind, why don’t they use it to create the lives they desire?

Why is it that most people use the power of their mind to work AGAINST them, instead of FOR them? You are going to find out in just a few minutes.

FIRST OF ALL, I AM GOING TO PREDICT YOUR FUTURE!

That’s right. I am not a psychic, but I am going to start off by predicting your future with 100% accuracy!

How can I possibly do that?

It’s very simple. I KNOW something about you - something that will allow me to predict your future with 100% accuracy.

Here it is: “If you keep THINKING what you are thinking, you will keep DOING what you are doing, and you will keep GETTING what you are getting.

In other words, what you are experiencing NOW and in the FUTURE is the result of your previous thoughts. Your future is predetermined by your thoughts in this moment. So, if you want to change your future, you must change what you are thinking about in this moment.

If I can convince you to do that, I predict you will have an absolutely fantastic, successful, exciting and happy future.

THE POWER OF FOCUS!

We are going to talk a lot about THE POWER OF FOCUS throughout this course.

How you feel about life and anything in particular, depends on WHERE YOU FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION.

Ask yourself this question, “What do I focus on most of the time?” If you are like most people, you will discover something very interesting about yourself. You will discover that you spend more time focusing on what you DON’T want than what you DO want.

Why is this important?

Because you can’t expect to have what you WANT if you focus on the OPPOSITE of what you want. Put simply, you will create and attract MORE of whatever you focus on.

Want Proof?

Have you ever made this statement,

“I feel stressed out, but I don’t know why.”

From what you have just learned, it is easy to figure out “why”. It is impossible to feel bad, sad, tense or negative and not know why.

If you are feeling stressed it is because you are focusing on stressful thoughts. In other words, you are focusing on what you don’t want, which is to feel stressed.

Said another way, bad thoughts can never produce good results, and good thoughts can never produce bad results.

Anytime you feel stressed, worried, fearful, or have any other negative feeling, it is because you are doing two things.

1. You are focusing on what you don’t want to happen.

2. You are focusing on the future, not the present moment.

It is impossible to feel stress, worry, fear or any other negative emotion if you are living in the present moment. The ONLY way you can feel negative emotion is to focus on what MIGHT happen, or what you DON’T WANT TO HAPPEN, in the next moment, next hour, next day, next week, next year, etc.

So your assignment for this first lesson is to monitor your thoughts. From now until the next lesson I would like you to become the “observer” of your thoughts. Don’t judge. Just observe. Observe what you focus on most of the time.

Are you focused on the past? What happened and how you wish it were different? Are you worried about the future? The next minute, the next day, next week, etc?

Start right now. Take a look at what you focus on most of the time. As you do this, please keep in mind: What you think about today, in this moment, will become your future.

Once you understand this, you can accurately predict your future. If you keep thinking what you are thinking, you will keep getting what you are getting. But if you shift your thought patterns and focus on what you want, instead of what you don’t want, you can begin to create a new and exciting future.

I will explain this in detail as we go into the next lessons, but for now please observe your thoughts and become aware of what you think about most of the time.

In Lesson 2 we will talk about why most self-improvement programs fail and what we can do to guarantee our success.

Thanks again for taking the time to read and study this material. You have begun a journey into self-discovery that can truly change your life.

Talk with you tomorrow! In the meantime, have a great and prosperous day . . .

Your partner in success,

Dr. Robert Anthony

Joe Rubino’s gratitude thoughts

Ask a buffalo photo by Mary MacIntyre

Ask a buffalo photo by Mary MacIntyre

Whenever we can remember to merge into our state of gratitude, then life may open up generously to us. I am a big believer that gratitude plant mental seeds for well being. Reflecting on gratitude can move one quickly from stress, doubt or despair into more positve perspectives on our present situation. Hope you enjoy the following read.

Dear Mary, This is Joe Rubino and I’m writing today to focus your awareness on the source of your actions. As human beings, we operate daily reflecting a wide range of emotions with a multitude of motivations fueling our behaviors. All too often, we react emotionally to what others say or do. If our reactions are preceded by the emotions of fear, anger, or sadness, we forfeit our ability to act with personal power and effectiveness in lieu of a knee-jerk response. This reaction is all too often sourced in fear and low self-esteem. We may focus on what’s wrong with us and our lives or fear being controlled, hurt, or taken advantage of. We may overlook the many things we have in our lives for which we should rightly be grateful. When we doubt our ability to thrive and access the abundance we see all around us in the world, we react instead from the concern of scarcity and the expectation of failure, hurt, and disappointment. We may see ourselves in competition for the world’s resources and the love and attention of others rather than realizing that there is more than enough of all that is good to go around. We forget that we manifest what we expect rather than needing to compete for limited resources. Whenever we forget that we are magnificent beings and that there is plenty of wealth, happiness, fun, and fulfillment to go around, we might feel the need to protect ourselves from what we perceive to be a dangerous world. We likewise tend to forget that others operate from the same lacking self-confidence, scarcity of gratitude, and deficient self-love that we often do. So, whenever two or more individuals see themselves as not good enough to tap into the world’s abundance and get all their needs met from a physical, social, mental, and emotional perspective, conflicts are likely to arise. The result is broken relationships, strained communication, emotional pain, struggle, and suffering. All of these are needless and optional for those who realize their ability to detach from the struggle and master their emotional response. When we stop to realize that everyone else suffers from the same self-doubt and fear of being dominated and cheated out of getting their fair share of love, fun, money, possessions, and security, we can break the vicious cycle of endless competition and continual striving for domination. We can realize that cooperation and communication is more effective in producing harmony than competition and a focus on self-interest based on fear. We can intentionally choose to trust that others are doing the best they know how to do based upon how they see the world. We can assume that they act from good intentions, even when we fear the opposite. We can hold them as worthy, competent, loving, good natured and capable of creating win-win relationships rather than fearing them as hateful, ill meaning, incompetent, unworthy, selfish opponents. When we decide to champion others by looking for the best in them and interact with them out of an attitude of gratitude for their gifts, strengths, and positive qualities, in such as manner that they are clear that we hold them as intrinsically good and worthy of our love and respect, we provide for them a new and exciting opportunity for them to show up for us in this manner. Our decision to hold others as great (because they really are when we strip away their anger, fears, and insecurities) allows them the freedom to rise to our expectations. By operating from love and gratitude for the wisdom and empathy we develop as a result of our interactions with others, we see their mistakes as temporary indiscretions producing valuable lessons from which to learn and grow rather than reflections of a fundamentally defective being. The key to bringing out the best in others is non-attachment. When we realize that we have total control over our response to any situation, and we give up our right to be invalidated by others or control them, we will possess a newfound freedom that allows us to exit the drama of conflict in favor of understanding, compassion, and love. Decide now to be grateful for the challenges you will encounter in your life and business. See the problems that arise as opportunities for your personal development. Look for these challenges as you go about your day, be grateful when you encounter them, and seek out the gifts awaiting your discovery. Exercise for Expanding Gratitude and Shifting Your Reactive Nature 1. List all the things you have decided to be grateful for in your life and business. 2. In your daily journal, record each time you fail to express gratitude for a challenging situation. 3. Catch yourself reacting emotionally to what someone says or does and shift your perception in that moment to appreciate the learning experience at hand. 4. In your daily life and business, who are you not holding as magnificent? 5. How can you champion their excellence and express gratitude for the opportunity to grow in love and wisdom that they are gifting you instead of reacting with anger, sadness, or fear? 6. Who are you seeking to control or avoid being controlled by? Will you take on the practice of non-attachment in your relationship with them by creating space for them to be who they are? Do this for 30 days and record in your journal how your interactions with them evolve. Make note of something that you can be grateful for in each situation. Energy

Every second of our lives, billions of biochemical reactions are taking place in our bodies. New molecules are produced and spent as old ones are broken down and disposed of. Our metabolism is a massive, complex, yet perfectly orchestrated system of energy that enables us to survive and thrive. In almost every chemical reaction in the body, a spark is needed to energize the reaction. This spark is provided by adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP), the energy molecule. It is fundamental to our physiology.

Amazingly, the body must produce half its own weight in ATP every day. It is a wise life strategy to give ATP production all the help we can. If this system is not working well we may feel tired and fatigued and our health may be affected.

Within each cell there are typically 1,000-2,000 mitochondria. This organelle is the site of three connected, complex, multi-stage biochemical processes - the Glycolytic cycle, the Krebs cycle, and the Electron Transport chain - these produce ATP.

Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are digested and enter the energy cycle to manufacture ATP. This requires a huge reserve of nutrients including B-vitamins, alpha-lipoic acid, CoQ10, and Acetyl L-Carnitine.

Inflammation Response

Inflammation is for many an underlying biochemical imbalance that can lead to concerns about our health. Inflammation begins as a helpful part of the immune system’s defense, but the problem for our health is when this natural defense process doesn’t turn off. Because of various environmental triggers and lifestyle factors, such as pollution, stress, or nutrient-deficient junk food diets, the defense system stays on the attack, generating metabolic inflammation and damaging healthy cells and tissues. Our body goes to war with itself. The fire of inflammation, however, can be quenched with dietary, lifestyle and nutritional changes.

I work at Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage in Santa Fe. We often have lectures to help educate the public on health issues. Tonight, I had the honor of introducing and listening to Guy Devin PHD. His talk was about the silent killer: Inflammation.

How many of you know about the searing effects of inflamtion? Some of you may have met this creature by working out too hard, spraining an ankle, or with the most talked about recently: Allergies!

As life goes on these firery visitors may flare up more often and can severely become a detriment to your quality of life. I am not going to try to give you a short version of a detailed and rather profound lecture. You can order tapes of a similar lecture at Naturalgrocers.com.

You can also visit the Source Naturals link above. They will have lots of articles.

Tonight’s discussion reminded me how we can empower ourselves and take proactive actions to heal ourselves. Yes talk to your practioners. At the same time actively participate in your journey to improved health. Research will keep you updated. Supplements can provide the body with signals to create balance.

If your body were on fire, you would take swift action. Your body internally may be on fire now, and finding the diet, lifestyle, and spiritual choices today could save your life. Here are some clues:
1) The most important supplement you can take is a probiotic.
2) Enzymes with meals helps you digest food better thus adding to better nutrient absorbption and reducing undigested proteins into your blood.
3) Enzymes on an empty stomach act theraputically.
4) Holy Basil reduces stress and cortisol.
5) Go to www.sourcenaturals.com
Each of these point can go into several lectures. Invest some of your time in learning and then choose the changes you will take to improve your quality of living. It may take time, but if you get half the results I have, you’ll dramatically increase your energy and feel a lot younger.

Guy Devin went into much more detail.

Stay strong!

Stay strong!

Life often evades perfection. Work can create stress and self doubt. Playing old recordings from the boss or your inner super critic may erode a strong self esteem. During moments like this, when your psyche needs replenishment and nutrients, review the points discussed below may help rejuvenate your spirit. Ahoy ! dear fellow traveller, we can all direct our movie and become rather fantastic. Hoist that sail and let the wind power a wondrous journey. Mary

BUILD YOUR SELF ESTEEM, A STARTER GUIDE TO SELF IMPROVEMENT

So how do you stay calm, composed and maintain self esteem in a tough environment? Here are some tips you may to consider as a starter guide to self improvement.

Imagine yourself as a Dart Board. Everything and everyone else around you may become Dart Pins, at one point or another. These dart pins will destroy your self esteem and pull you down in ways you won’t even remember. Don’t let them destroy you, or get the best of you. So which dart pins should you avoid? (Comment: imagine yourself surrounded with a magical shield beaming loving light. All esteem busters are deflected into space where they loose their negative power. Mary)

Dart Pin #1 : Negative Work Environment
Beware of “dog eat dog” theory where everyone else is fighting just to get ahead. This is where non-appreciative people usually thrive. No one will appreciate your contributions even if you miss lunch and dinner, and stay up late. Most of the time you get to work too much without getting help from people concerned. Stay out of this, it will ruin your self esteem. Competition is at stake anywhere. Be healthy enough to compete, but in a healthy competition that is.

Dart Pin #2: Other People’s Behavior
Bulldozers, brown nosers, gossipmongers, whiners, backstabbers, snipers, people walking wounded, controllers, naggers, complainers, exploders, patronizers, sluffers… all these kinds of people will pose bad vibes for your self esteem, as well as to your self improvement scheme.

Dart Pin #3: Changing Environment
You can’t be a green bug on a brown field. Changes challenge our paradigms. It tests our flexibility, adaptability and alters the way we think. Changes will make life difficult for awhile, it may cause stress but it will help us find ways to improve our selves. Change will be there forever, we must be susceptible to it.

Dart Pin #4: Past Experience
It’s okay to cry and say “ouch!” when we experience pain. But don’t let pain transform itself into fear. It might grab you by the tail and swing you around. Treat each failure and mistake as a lesson.

Dart Pin #5: Negative World View
Look at what you’re looking at. Don’t wrap yourself up with all the negativities of the world. In building self esteem, we must learn how to make the best out of worst situations.

Dart Pin #6: Determination Theory
The way you are and your behavioral traits is said to be a mixed end product of your inherited traits (genetics), your upbringing (psychic), and your environmental surroundings such as your spouse, the company, the economy or your circle of friends. You have your own identity. If your father is a failure, it doesn’t mean you have to be a failure too. Learn from other people’s experience, so you’ll never have to encounter the same mistakes.

Sometimes, you may want to wonder if some people are born leaders or positive thinkers. NO. Being positive, and staying positive is a choice. Building self esteem and drawing lines for self improvement is a choice, not a rule or a talent. God wouldn’t come down from heaven and tell you – “George, you may now have the permission to build self esteem and improve your self.”

In life, its hard to stay tough specially when things and people around you keep pulling you down. When we get to the battle field, we should choose the right luggage to bring and armors to use, and pick those that are bullet proof. Life’s options give us arrays of more options. Along the battle, we will get hit and bruised. And wearing a bullet proof armor ideally means ‘self change’. The kind of change which comes from within. Voluntarily. Armor or Self Change changes 3 things: our attitude, our behavior and our way of thinking.

Building self esteem will eventually lead to self improvement if we start to become responsible for who we are, what we have and what we do. Its like a flame that should gradually spread like a brush fire from inside and out. When we develop self esteem, we take control of our mission, values and discipline. Self esteem brings about self improvement, true assessment, and determination. So how do you start putting up the building blocks of self esteem? Be positive. Be contented and happy. Be appreciative. Never miss an opportunity to compliment. A positive way of living will help you build self esteem, your starter guide to self improvement.

BE Happy? What’s the catch?

C'mon, let me go and run!

C'mon, let me go and run!

Below you’ll find a few ideas to use as “serious too much” or “winter blues busters”. Dr Dan told me this week to add the N vitamin: humor nutrient. I was rather surpised by his comment, however it made great sense. Did I reveal or uncloak the overly concerned cloud that has been chasing me lately? Was I blasting my tenseness underneath my laughter? Or is he just plain pyschic?

I am juggling a lot of stuff and feeling a bit overwhelmed. All those clouds keep returning whilst I also have ssssome fun and levity. It’s a pisces thing where I can experience both clouds, and laughter and gratitude at the same time.

So add the humor factor! Also feel free to copy and share the article below.

Happy as You Want to Be

Almost everyone have heard the hit single ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ by Bobby McFerrin. The song has a very catchy way of conveying its message of being happy to everyone. Bobby Mcferiin’s simple message surely made a lot of people by telling them not to worry.

Living a happy, resilient and optimistic life is wonderful, and is also good for your health. Being happy actually protects you from the stresses of life. Stress is linked to top causes of death such as heart disease, cancer and stroke.

One of the better things ever said is - ‘The only thing in life that will always remain the same is change’, and in our life we have the power to make the necessary changes if we want to. Even if we find ourselves in an unbearable situation we can always find solace in the knowledge that it too would change.

Social networks or relationships are essential to happiness. People are different, accept people for who or what they are, avoid clashes, constant arguments, and let go of all kinds of resentments. If arguments seem unavoidable still try and make an effort to understand the situation and you might just get along with well with

Happiness is actually found in everyone, increasing it is a way to make a life more wonderful and also more healthy.

To be happy is relatively easy, just decide to be a happy person. (HA!)Abraham Lincoln observed that most people for most of the time can choose how happy or stressed, how relaxed or troubled, how bright or dull their outlook to be. The choice is simple really, choose to be happy.

There are several ways by which you can do this.

Being grateful is a great attitude. We have so much to be thankful for. Thank the taxi driver for bringing you home safely, thank the cook for a wonderful dinner and thank the guy who cleans your windows. Also thank the mailman for bringing you your mails, thank the policeman for making your place safe and thank God for being alive.

News is stressful. Get less of it. Some people just can’t start their day without their daily dose of news. Try and think about it, 99% of the news we hear or read is bad news. Starting the day with bad news does not seem to be a sensible thing to do.

A religious connection is also recommended. Being part of a religious group with its singing, sacraments, chanting, prayers and meditations foster inner peace.

Manage your time. Time is invaluable and too important to waste. Time management can be viewed as a list of rules that involves scheduling, setting goals, planning, creating lists of things to do and prioritizing. These are the core basics of time management that should be understood to develop an efficient personal time management skill. These basic skills can be fine tuned further to include the finer points of each skill that can give you that extra reserve to make the results you desire.

Laugh and laugh heartily everyday. Heard a good joke? Tell your friends or family about it. As they also say -’Laughter is the best medicine’.

Express your feelings, affections, friendship and passion to people around you. They will most likely reciprocate your actions. Try not to keep pent up anger of frustrations, this is bad for your health. Instead find ways of expressing them in a way that will not cause more injury or hurt to anyone.

Working hard brings tremendous personal satisfaction. It gives a feeling of being competent in finishing our tasks. Accomplishments are necessary for all of us, they give us a sense of value. Work on things that you feel worthy of your time.

Learning is a joyful exercise. Try and learn something new everyday. Learning also makes us expand and broaden our horizons. And could also give us more opportunities in the future.

Run, jog, walk and do other things that your body was made for. Feel alive.

Avoid exposure to negative elements like loud noises, toxins and hazardous places.

These are the few simple things you can do everyday to be happy.

And always remember the quote from Abraham Lincoln, he says that, “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Plant,protect the earth

Plant,protect the earth

I have sevrl collections of articles. Some have reasonable ideas. If you need ideas for your blogs, newsletters etc., articles like this may be of great use for you to add to your income. You can always modify them. So go ahead and copy and share. Let me know what you think of this example.

Also if you have 10 tips on almost anything, it’s a great way to begin.

Eample article:
“Who’s the Boss?” 10 ways to start taking control (time management, goal setting, record tracking)

At first glance, it would seem that positive thinking and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have nothing to do with one another. But many of us with ADD develop negative thinking patterns because we become frustrated by our challenges and frequent feelings of being overwhelmed. This negative outlook then makes it even harder for us to manage those challenges and move forward.

Practicing positive thinking allows people with ADD to focus on our strengths and accomplishments, which increases happiness and motivation. This, in turn, allows us to spend more time making progress, and less time feeling down and stuck. The following tips provide practical suggestions that you can use to help you shift into more positive thinking patterns:

1. Take Good Care of Yourself
It’s much easier to be positive when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.

2. Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For
Stresses and challenges don’t seem quite as bad when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are right in life. Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference.

3. Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions
A fear of not being liked or accepted sometimes leads us to assume that we know what others are thinking, but our fears are usually not reality. If you have a fear that a friend or family member’s bad mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Don’t waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.

4. Refrain from Using Absolutes
Have you ever told a partner “You’re ALWAYS late!” or complained to a friend “You NEVER call me!”? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like ‘always’ and ‘never’ makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering.

5. Detach From Negative Thoughts
Your thoughts can’t hold any power over you if you don’t judge them. If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it, and don’t follow it.

6. Squash the “ANTs”
In his book “Change Your Brain, Change Your Life,” Dr. Daniel Amen talks about “ANTs” - Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like “Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me,” or “The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!” When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Lovin’, Touchin’ & Squeezin’ (Your Friends and Family)
You don’t have to be an expert to know the benefits of a good hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up. One research study on this subject had a waitress touch some of her customers on the arm as she handed them their checks. She received higher tips from these customers than from the ones she didn’t touch!

8. Increase Your Social Activity
By increasing social activity, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!

9. Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person
Everyone feels good after helping. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination
If you find yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It’s never productive, because it’s not rational or solution-oriented, it’s just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment - go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music.

When it comes to the corporate world, protocol is pretty much the religion. To know the things needed to do are the basics of productivity, but interaction and having a steady mind makes up the entire thing to true productivity. There are those who seem to work well even under pressure, but they’re uncommon ones and we are human and imperfect. To get these little things like stress under our skins won’t solve our problems. Sometimes it takes a bit of courage to admit that we’re turning to be workaholics than tell ourselves that we’re not doing our best.

Plant healthy happy attitudes

Plant healthy happy attitudes

Ever get stuck? It doesn’t matter where or why: Stuck can be a big problem anywhere. Got it? OK.

We may not have time to get outside and sweep or inertia away. Problems may seem to cascade into our perception all at once. Then there is the stuff at home lurking about. And that ache in your neck, and the computer strain on your eys and the BUdget!!!!! Typos don’t help either.

Breathe.

Fortunately, with a little conscious effort, thoughts can be put on the bookshelf and ideas lead from one point to many points. Create your own waterfall of productive ideas. Grab you paper and turn a blank page into a roadmap. At work? Just grab a pad. Write two word thoughts. Return to work. Then add two word questions. Return to work. Repaeat several times and you may find the brain taking cues and providing more answers.

Hmmm, I am asking the questions and the answers are not coming. Perhaps it is time for youtube.

Trick: Create answers by reversing the question. Turn it into a statement. I could provide my readers with improved content. This would create more traffic. I could write my blog more frequently which creates more traffic. Hey just go to www.writersunbound.com

James Taylor had a song…

A good friend of mine was just told “Don’t call me anymore” from a friend she’s known for years. This has probably happened to all of us one time or another. Sometimes there is nothing one can do to resolve these painful partings.

What’s one to do? Look around you and know that others care for you too. Hopefully. Call them.

Years later these voices still ring true. Friends come in so many varieties. Erase rules of how they must be. Begin to treasure the gifts that each offer. “Feel Free to SIng!” C. King

Give yourself time to be alone, and mourn.

Hope you listen to these “old timers” words. They provide a lot of suggestions toward…appreciating friends.

Just as it is important to be ourselves, it also can be wonderful to stand with and for another. When you can, open your heart to those you love and meet. Your loving enriches the world. IF it feels right, perhaps today and all week long, you might let your friends know how much you appreciate their kindness and love. Feel free to copy and share these thoughts often. Thank you. Remember comments are always welcomed.

Today’s EFT Quote: “Recently I was visiting my mother when I accidentally poured lots of boiling water over my hand. There was not enough time to cool it, and it felt like flames were shooting out of it. As I had nothing at hand, I tried a few rounds of EFT. I then fell asleep and when I woke 20 minutes later, the pain was gone COMPLETELY. It did not come back!” Monica Denes

A cat story:
By Maureen Cram

Some readers will already have heard of my ginger cat, Uti. For those that have not read about him before, he was purchased from a pet shop at a far too early age, not house trained at all, had no hygiene skills etc. He had no idea how to dig holes to use for his toilet purposes (and still doesn’t really know what to do) and makes very loud slurps when he washes himself.

I have worked on him for his fear of thunder, his inability to eat premium cat food (he used to have permanent diarrhea) and his basic self confidence - all with success using EFT.

We have recently moved from a townhouse complex in the Johannesburg area (city living) to a much larger piece of land (just under two acres) in a development in Hartbeespoort, which has a large dam/lake. It is a bush-like area with game roaming around freely and you cannot easily see your neighbour’s houses.

In the past Uti would be extremely cautious when leaving the house, checking for who knows what (I am sure Uti knew what he was checking for) and generally not being venturesome at all.

When we moved here he appeared to have a personality makeover. Within hours he became Action Cat. He was the first one to use the cat flap in and out (he had not had to use a cat flap before). He explored the land, the other side of the road, down the road, under the culvert. he was Out There, showing my other five cats how it was done.

He was so proud of himself - being a trail blazer, doing things the others wouldn’t or couldn’t do. What a change for him! Then tragedy struck.

Our cat door has different settings and unbeknownst to me the person who does our house cleaning inadvertently moved the setting key when she was cleaning the mud off the cat flap and in doing so stopped the cats from being able to get in from the outside (they wear magnets on their collars). We have a ‘racoon proof’ door to keep out the monkeys.

At 3 am we heard screaming and wailing and rushed to see what was going on.

We had to find the key to open the door and let in poor Uti who rushed in, bleeding profusely, panting and in total shock. Something had bitten him that was small enough to come through the cat sized hole in the wall and he was unable to push open the flap and escape.

We examined him and found a large bite mark on one of his back feet. I put a drop of lavender essential oil on it and we put Uti on the bed to calm him down.

I immediately lay there and did surrogate EFT for Uti on and off throughout the rest of the night to help heal the bite, allowing healing energy to enter his body and help heal his wound etc. I also did EFT on me for the guilt I felt that this trusting cat could not get in through the door and I should have checked the door more than I did.

The next day he lay on the bed, licking his wound and basically doing nothing. He limped badly if I put him on the floor and he hid behind some packing boxes for the rest of the day. That night he lay on our bed right next to me and did not move off the bed at all. I did more EFT on him for healing the wound, that he was a brave cat, etc.

He continued to lie around and lick the wound and not do much else. That night he was on the bed again next to me for the whole night.

The following day I was out walking and wondering what else I could do for Uti when this big cloud of sadness came over me and I got tears in my eyes.

He was a failure. he was depressed because he had ‘failed’ yet again.

Everything he did was a failure. he couldn’t dig holes, couldn’t wash himself properly, slurped when he washed himself. and now this. He was a total failure now he had gotten bitten. None of the other cats had gotten bitten. Only Uti the Failure.

I did several rounds of EFT on him, working on Even though I feel like a failure I am a great cat. Even though I got bitten I am a trail blazing action cat. Even though I failed again I didn’t really fail as I now have a ‘war wound’ to show for myself and I am still a great cat.

I tapped on myself saying I am an action cat. I have war wounds to show for my bravery. I am a great cat. the other cats didn’t go outside like I did. I am a trail blazing cat. I am Uti the Action Cat. I can be a day Action Cat - I don’t have to go out at night if I don’t want to … nobody goes out at night … and felt a huge sigh.

I came back home and found Uti and stroked him and told him he was still our Action Cat. He was the bravest cat we had. About an hour later I was working at my PC when I felt a cat brushing and bumping around my legs to say hello. I absent-mindedly patted the cat and then realised it was Uti! No limping! Purring around me as usual!

I stopped work and petted him and hugged him and told him what a fantastic Action Cat he was. He seemed very happy and he ate some biscuits without limping. Then he hopped up on a chair and went to sleep in a normal position, not all hunched up.

He has gone from strength to strength. no more limping. swelling in his foot totally gone (also his front foot was swollen and that has gone down and is healing nicely) and he is now running about like he used to. Today I saw him across the road again with two of the other cats following him!

So once again, a big thank you to EFT - no vet visit, no drugs pumped into his system, emotionally healed as well as physically healed. Uti the Action Cat takes a bow!

Add spice and fun to today

Add spice and fun to today

If you watched these two videos, you are ahead of these words. Lots of ideas. Why eat healrhy? Whether you are trying to lose weight, figthing ageing, or just wanting to feel more energized and better, eating healthier can change your life.

Create a shopping strategy. List three categories of food you need to buy. Make short sub-lists of several options. Salad makings can also go for making soups, or in casseroles. What do you feel like this week? Buy smaller amounts so you can expand your variety. By doing this you can quickly peruse produce for items you like and want.

Know what proteins you will need. Include protein snacks. Protein and carbs can get you beyond the hunger that hits between meals. They can also help you keep your sugar levels with less spikes. Ine benefit: fewer mood swings and better concentration.

If you purchase 75% of your items from the healthiest categories, then you can fudge a bit for the 25% left. Good breads, crackers, a favorite cheese. If you have less of the snacks and desserts at home, you’ll save $$$ and have less temptation.

Start now and enjoy each day of your feeling better. Over the years you’ll appreciate the better health, less meds, and the fun of being able to do what you want to do. This is your life, make the best of it: it’s your choice NOW!
